Is it any good? We'll be there from the end of July to early August and the people I'm going with have mixed interests so I'm having to persuade one or two of them that there will be something to do at night. Is it busy, what are the crowds like and what time do bars and clubs tend to shut? Any recommendations? Finally, what's the golf course like over on the Brijuni Islands? Cheers.

Nightlife in Pula ?
Hmmm.............if you bring the 'life' we will provide the Night.
There are a few discotheques, but you will need a car and most of all............you need to be able to find them !

Isn't Mambo's night club a lively place?
No relation of course.

I can always open up a night club in my house, but it completely depends on who is the 'guest'.
But seriously, in Pula there is not a lot to do at night. You can sit on a few terraces, but except for the Arena Pula does not have a lot to offer, it is a city like any other normal working city. There are some hotels around Pula, but if you see their night entertainment it is really back to the 70's, large open space, everything made of wood, a bar of 40 meters long and 10 guests, no atmosphere. There is one good dicotheque in Pula, forgot the name, but best of all, it is extremely difficult to find. If you have never been in Pula you will never find it and a lot of people have also never heard of it.
If you have a car driving to Medullin is a better option, it is more touristic, more restaurants/bars etc. But in all, Istria is not the place for nightlife, like Slatkica wrote you will have to go to Dalmatia or better, go to Pag.

Apparently a 5 euro cab ride gets you to this hip and happening place in a small fishing village not too far from Pula. www.burabeach.comSounds like it might get a little windy.

emm16 - I'm in the same situation as you! Have just booked a holiday to Pula with some mates and it's true, it's a struggle to find any kind of nightlife.
Bura Beach, as gmh says, looks the best bet by some way. Run by a couple of English blokes as well apparently so I might ask them for some advice on local stuff when we go. Their website also has useful tips and references to good places locally under the 'Liznjan' section - the Levan bar sounds good.
Apparently lots of people go to Qpola early in the evenings for a drink as well? Not a clue where it is, mind...
I have a feeling a lot of things in Pula will be VERY obscure and hard to find! Could be wrong but that's the way it seems. Probably the first couple of nights we'll just be discovering where everything is.
HTH ---------------------------- Also, does anyone know much about the Uljanik rock club or similar in the local area? Cheers!

One thing is for sure in Pula..........if you are looking for drugs.......don't worry, the place is almost a warehouse.
I saw that website of this Bura Beach, but in that case I would prefer that discotheque of which I have forgotten the name. Luckily I still know how to get there and next time in Pula I will take a look for the name.
And indeed I think it will become a struggle to find something, but then again, maybe this year something new will open up.

Uljanik attracts a bit older crowd than 16/17 year olds but it's alright for beer & concerts, there's also maybe in summer some festival/party at Karlo Rojc, studentclub/gallery/multimedia center, and if you like clubbin: in summer there are clubnights in Fort Bourguignon and also parties in Premantura, just ask the young local people. But otherwise Pula is "city of the dead" at night and when summer (tourist season) is over you can fire a cannon after ten o'clock in the city centre and hit no-one.
