Bratislava - A Slovak pensioner who spent three years building his own plane in his garage using a model aircraft as a guide plans to take his friends on holiday to Croatia soon in his first flight, Czech news wire CTK reported on Friday.
"Owning my own plane has been my lifelong dream so I decided to build it in my garage, copying a model of the US Fox plane," Milan Friso, 67, a former pilot instructor from Nitra in western Slovakia, said.
Friso said it cost him about 750 000 koruna (about 15,000 US dollars) to build the ultralight aircraft, which weighs 280kg.
He said he expected the flight to Croatia to take about three hours at a speed of 145km/h.
