I came across this site while looking up info on shark attacks in Europe, and someone in the other thread asked when was the last time someone saw a great white in the adriatic. Well check this out: science.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1031225.php/Croatia_confirms_great_white_shark_presence_in_AdriaticAlso, if the great white is in Sicily (as previously stated in the other thread) it can swim to the Adriatic in no time. The great white has been known to swim 7000 miles in just 3 months, so swimming from the mediterrenean to Croatia is nothing but a picnic to the great white. I'm having trouble finding detailed info on shark attacks in Europe, it seems almost as if someone is trying to keep it from the public. I'm not giving up yet, though. Oh, and since someone asked, here are the statistics for confirmed unprovoked shark attacks for Croatia (1847-2005) Total attacks: 5 Fatal attacks: 4 Last fatality: 1974 To sum it all up, it seems as though one can feel rather safe in European waters.

The thread was closed because it strayed enormously from the subject and very quickly turned into an argument about spelling, ha! Not quite on topic.

As is often the case, Punky Guest, the boring facts are probably the truth. Last fatal was in Omis in 1974, apparently because some dick on a ship didn`t follow the rules on waste disposal. Nobody I know in these parts has heard of anything else (For Ghostwriter: apologies for hearsay your honour, but in this case quoting the views of people I know is relevant).

I saw a programme called "When Good times go wrong" and there was a woman swimming off a boat near Florida. The people on the boat saw a huge shark coming and called to her, but she couldn't swim fast enough and the shark swam up to her and bit her leg off and then disappeared. Luckily, and they said unusually, it didn't return for seconds. But man! this shark was GIGANTIC! It was like the size of a medium length car!
