Hi,
Could someone tell me some simple cost of living and socio-economic measures of Croatia such as
Average annual Wages for say
An Accountant A Marketing Manager An Office Clerk
What is the unemployment rate?
What is the demographic make up of Croatia?
What is seen as the future of Croatia, what sectors are set to benefit most in the next few years?
What's the price of a pint? How much is rent per month? How much for a typical house to buy?
Any other information?
I know that these all depend on the location, but I'm just looking for some ball park figures, to get a feel for the cost of living in Croatia.
Regards
Culchie

Quite hard to generalise about most of the figures you ask about, but here's a rough idea:
Average Wage is about 1/4 to a 1/3 of that of the UK.
Pints rarely found but local bottled lager about 8-10kn, foreign imports 10-15kn.
Houses can vary wildly, coastal areas around major tourist areas such as DBV or Split and islands push the price up. Many people build their own houses, so the cost is often based on local land, labour and materials.
Unemployment is fairly high, finding work can be difficult, particularly for Non-Croats. I think the last figure I saw was about 20%.
Maybe if you are more specific about area, then we can apply figures slightly more accurately.

I read that the average Croatian wage is $500 per month. The cost of living is supposed to be one-third less than the UK. I have seen ruins for Euros 20,000 and nice three bedroom houses for Euros 75,000. You can rent a two bedroom apartment on the Peljesac Peninsula for Euros 150 per week. Inland property is cheaper. Dubrovnik is more expensive. Generalisations I know, but hope this helps!

Hi, Could someone tell me some simple cost of living and socio-economic measures of Croatia such as Average annual Wages for say An Accountant A Marketing Manager Any other information? Just as a couple of (very) isolated data points in respect of the above, a Croatian Estate Agent we got talking to out there shared with us the fact that in a good month he will net 2000 - 3000 Euros which I felt was pretty good given the cost of living out there. When we visited we were eating out in the centre of Zadar, enjoying a 3 course meal with wine for only £10 - 12 a head. Yum yum.

So, pretend we're in Zagreb. How much for...
a month of electricity in your flat? a cappucino? a loaf of bread? a pound of ground beef? a day pass for public transit? a MacDonald's Big Mac meal? (I'm assuming McD's is there... surely...) a pair of jeans? a pack of Pampers? a CD? DVD? a microwave? a train ticket to Venice?
Just some examples off the top of my head. Feel free to throw in some more that might be useful for a family of three that is possibly headed to Zagreb!
