Marie please watch 'The fall of the bridge' documentary shown on Discovery channel. It is beautiful and very very sad and upseting. There are interviews from both sides.
I cannot tell you why Croats knocked down the bridge, because they were animals just like Serbs.
I hope you like it ...
Kind Regards

The muslims controlled the east side of mostar and the croats the west. The croats knocked the bridge out so the muslims couldnt get across, and thats the truth ruth.
Defence at all costs

I know this is an old thread, but I was recently in Mostar, so it is of interest to me.
The bridge is question is just a footbridge, so if it were a case of stopping people crossing from one side to the other, why not simply have a check-point/patrol or armed guard on the Croat side?
Were the other bridges (road bridges) also destroyed?
BTW, Stari Most is beautiful, any tourists to Dubrovnik area should go and have a look.

I think it's possible you may have your info a bit mixed. As far as I understand it, Stari Most was blown up in the war and then replaced by a swinging metal bridge. There is a smaller 'crooked bridge' which was built before stari most, which still stands to this day.

Maybe I misinterpreted the signs.
I take it that the Mostar bridge that was blown up was the pedestrian bridge in the old town, and has been rebuilt since ?

Stari Most was rebuilt and it was reopened in July 2004
