Hey Pacificstar! I wish I was into putting, pardon the pun, golf courses into Croatia, at least I'd be making lots of money, but unfortunately I havent' got the skills, on the course and off. My Dad's family are actually from near Dundalk, near Ardee, we could even be related through marriage ;D I think only the Irish can argue with themselves and make sense at the same time, but you've a good mix, it would keep you sane in Croatia. And it is, as you've experienced, a lovely country to visit, especially around Crikvenica, really spectacular coastline. I live away up in the hills, but it's just as pretty there, and the people are more irish too Have a great dya and if you or your Hubby are in or around Knin don't hesitate to say Hi! We need all the smiles we can get! Take care, Alan

Were planning on coming next year 2006 actually going to Ireland & Croatia. Planning on staying with the family in Crikvenica and then ventureing off mainly to the islands. My cousin's husband is from Korcula so were thinking about checking out that island and their olive trees and the like. So Guiness in Ireland and oh I don't know the spelling, sorry of the Croatian beer. I like the Croatian beer better, the one with the red label. I have some here in the states both are chilling in the refig.

Karlovacko
And Guinness is an acquired taste, which I have yet to pick up, Harp and Kilkenny are far superior!

I liked Karlavacko at first, but after a while you realise it is not such a great beer, Ozujsko is much better.
Sorry but corona is utter muck, as for beers to avoid in Croatia, do not drink the locally produced stella or carlsberg,,disgusting.
There is a good selection of czech beers in metro.

Last time I went to Croatia I got thrown out of my Brother in laws house because I discovered how cheap Slovenian, Austrian and German beer was in the local supermaket so I bought as much as I could and overloaded the fridge with it.
When my Sister in law came home she went mad and demanded to know why I had put all my beer in HER fridge. I had to find a new home for it at the mother in laws! Don't worry still drunk it.
Croatian beer is not too bad but there's a nicer alternative.

Yo, all the stupid ass, ignorant ppl who think 4 one second that most Croatians have "moved on" and don't care about Serbian people, ur strongly mistaken...ESPECIALLY in the younger generations, i'm now 18, nd ive lived in croatia most of my life, and some in the US, and every place I go, there is still memories of the slaughterings and masscres the yugos cause us. And serbs now are raised 2 believe that they were always right, and justified in wat tey did, ..so tell me, how can a proud croatian and a proud serbian ever get along?,, unless they don't care about their heritages..

Croam, i did wonder how long it would take before we got comments like those from Rat and Croatianbloodz.
Croatianbloodz, you can be a proud Croatian and proud serb but part of being proud is accepting and recognising that no one side is whiter than white. If you are proud but think that people like Gotovina, Mladic, Karadzic are hero's then you are not proud but ignorant - their is a distinct difference.
The same applies to the belief that all Croatians and all Serbians are the same, are you proud ethnic Croatians or proud bosnian croatians?, just like Croatian Serbs, Bosnian Serbs and Serbians each has a different history, culture and way of life and as such should not be just branded as "croatians" or "serbs".
Rat - Serbs are not a horrible race, to which serbs do you refer?, sweeping statements like this worry me in terms of what future Croatia has in light of "intelectual" comments like this!. We are not all bad as you mention, but we are also not a horrible race, we are not genetically inclined to be horrible, just like Croatians we have been led blindly by other people whose intentions were less than honest.

Bottom line
Croatians are better people then serbs, we are more decent serbs are barbaric
-Any bad thing we have done, was for freedom -We never fought a war on anyone elses soil -Serbs came to Croatian land and fought a war, we never went to theirs nor do we want too
Serbs done everything for more power Croats done it for freedom from the aggressors
Thats the bottom line

Yea TipRat, u are right bout Croatian and serbs intentions for the war...but i also gotta agree wit CroatianSerbAbroad, not all people of a race agree with what their people did in the past, and can completely disagree with it. But an important thing to remember is that people don't hate eachother, they only hate the things that they've done. I'm almost sure that if Serbs were given the same opportunity as they had many years ago, it might have been different, although i may be wrong, i havn't know ANY Serbs in my lifetime, but i'm not one to judge some1 for their race, although i don't think i'll become friends wit a Serb anytime soon, but it is still possible to live in peace.

croatblood... like i said, there's nothing wrong with being a nationalist, or being proud of your heritage, just be carefull to not take that to its extreme: arrogant superiority and hatred of others. TipRat's comments are extreme while yours are more sensible. I understand that you really want to know how they are supposed to coexist as this is an issue. The only way to move on is to forgive and forget, otherwise you will just end up fighting each other again. The germans and the french get along great now, 50 years after WWII, as do Americans and Japanese...and we dropped atomic bombs on them!!!! They realized that its in their best interest to get along...that doesn't mean they love each other. Its all about tolerance. You don't have to like others but it really helps smooth things out when we tolerate other people, as long as they aren't directly affecting us negatively. After all, i think at the end of the day most normal people just want to live their lives, doing their own things without interference from others. You can't live like that if your fighting wars and killing each other. Progress grinds to a halt and misery and pain flourish.
