Croatia isn't so bad, it didn't even make it into the top half of most corrupt countries, kind of mirrors Croatian football, at least in reality (unlike those happy majority who believed that drinking copious amounts of beer and holding onto the belief that the sport was still at the cutting edge last summer!

it is not as corrupt or destitute as Mexico(which has many beautiful vacation spots) But yeah, the corruption is there on many levels. Its too bad. Ten years ago Croatia was ahead of many countries that have recently been admitted to the EU. I spoke with people in Dubrovnik who told me that they made alot more money before the war. People are still afraid of Croatia and the first question i hear from people who have heard of Croatia is "is it safe there? is the war over?" and its been over for many years now. SAD....

Croatia is still more advanced than some of the new countries and certainly it is more advanced then Bulgaria and Romania.
However economics is only part of it, politics counts for a lot, and Croatia can only behave like a Balkans country and demand to be treated like a western country forever.
