I do not think they hate Brits, they just seem to be a sulky and sullen people that is all. Croatians have a hard time dealing with the directness and easy going openness of the average Briton. It does something to them, diminishes their spirit and that changes their behavioural responses for the worst. They blame us for a lot it seems, but that is a newsflash surprise to find out,as they do not come forward and express their opinions to us,this all goes on furtive and avoidant fashion. I most certainly do not expect many Croatians to be in possession of the proper skills needed to confront a critic.to deal with them in another way, yes, but to debate?no. So yes, they probably do hate us because we highlight their shortfalls. They talk big of ignoring, excluding and disliking others but they cannot see that is how most outsiders wish to treat them at he moment,in all walks of life, due to their obsession of nurturing arrogant personality traits. Wearing your negative qualities as a badge of honour seems to be the done for a Croat.
Just being honest, just talking from experience.
Win me over.

I don't think they do hate Brits, but quite a few think what they are told to think and sometimes the media is negative.
As to being able to debate, it seems to me that Croats are very able to do this and have lots of patience for it. Its just that they sometimes don't let the conversation move on or take on board the other person's point of view and counter it with an applicable argument (which may be your defintion of debating). Lots of the people I dealt with were like that but then a lot of them were uneducated. On the other hand look at Justapixel's posts - he can do all these things very well. So, you can't generalise too much.

I think this post has been bled to death, and it's not really if Croats hate Brits, but more if they dislike them, or maybe more broad.. forigners. Having been here some years I don't think this is really the case with the general public, but let’s say there is suspicion towards foreigners. The whole joining the EU is clouded in secrecy, a lot of bad press about foreigners buying land and houses and then with all the local problems here, Croats kind of wonder why foreigners come here in the first place (besides for a week or 2 holidays). They really can't comprehend why we the foreigner would leave our Western civilisation unless there something fishy up, especially if your not the owner or director of a multi-national company, but just some odd-ball deciding to live and work in Croatia like them. Coupled with plenty of nationalistic tendencies and suspicions, plus trust no-one it makes for disillusioned minds, scepticism and closure to outside opinions, view points and change for the better. Many Croats view the common foreigner as being wealthy and here only for the money, in short to fleece the country of its natural resources. Maybe working on the coast in summer brings this opinion out with the holiday foreigner being a little demanding for some form of service, and the Croat doing the work, waiting on the foreigner hand and foot.

I agree with you crojoe... they do find it strange that anyone would want to leave a comfortable life in the west to go live in Croatia and they do think that you have to be running from something or up to something illegal because otherwise it just doesn't make sense. Maybe they know better than we do what their country has to offer??

Since then are I am beginning to feel that there are now two firm camps 1) those that will always cling on to the old ways and won't speak to people like me anymore. Ha ha your game is up and the truth of one is still the truth. You are the ones hiding now. 2) those that accept that change is firmly on the way and want to be on the winning side. Drama.

Yeah it was a stereotypical response to a stereotypical person, and yes time have moved on for a lot of people. I was a bit surprised to see that this thread still had any legs.
