ok, thanks to everyone for their help on my last Croatian language question. this time i'm wondering how one would properly say "lovely woman". it seemed as though "divan" would be the most appropriate word, but 1) i'm not positive that there isn't a more direct word out there, & 2) if it is the best one, i'm not sure how to make it feminine. my guess would be "divana žena" but i could totally be wrong. so...any ideas?
thanks!

Hi Lelong, it depends on whether you are referring to a person's character or physical appearance. If you are referring to the latter, then you can translate lovely as: lijep (masc.) & lijepa (fem.) , krasan (masc.) & krasna (fem.) , divan (masc.) & divna (fem.) If you are referring to their character, you can say: drag (masc.) & draga (fem.) ; ljubak (masc.) & ljupka (fem.) ; dražestan (masc.) & dražesna (fem.) ; simpatièan (masc.) & simpatièna (fem.) ; even sjajan (masc.) & sjajna (fem.) - here it means 'splendid'. Divan (masc.) & divna (fem.) can refer both to their physical appearance and their character, so that would be a good solution!

Ah, I forgot to mention that although adjectives "ljubak" and "dražestan" exist in masculine form, in real life we don't normally go around saying that a man is ljubak or dražestan. Say anything else from the list above to a man, but not that. If a man is chav-like or likes to think of himself as such, he might be offended. Just thought it would be good to mention that.

As anyone who has been on here for a short while knows, I am not the one to help with language questions! However, I found a pretty helpful site at www.eudict.com. It will translate just about anything from English to Croatian (as well as other languages).

Nice work jujevic66. I managed to get the "beta" version of this from a bunch of students who were developing the Croatian section. They've done a thorough job. I typed in "ipak" and got so many translations, yet, still, although, but, nevertheless, however...... jeez. I'm not sure I should have asked the question now
