This is shocking!
How could they have kept it quiet in such a way? What if it suddenly all went totally wrong? Would they just announce on TV that "Sorry, the country has no money"?
Can you imagine the outfall?

Please keep in mind that this was written by Pukanic, "National" journalist famous for sensationalism. Not that it cannot be true in certain acpects...

Who is this shocking to? It certainly isn't shocking to me, I have said several times how close Croatia is to being bankrupt, but everybody chooses to know better.

It will be interesting to see the response from the usual suspects, u/,./2 (ghost) barba star etc.
Something along the lines of its just because of this government and those d**n foreigners I should immagine.
""The Financial system is not efficient
The entire Croatian financial system is grotesque. Even Serbia is better organized "" Hopefully a few people will realise what is going on in the two faced world of Croatia, it can be fixed, but only with the help of foreigner investement, the end of communist attitudes, lazy workforce and the end of the black economy....

Emiz, I don't believe anyone here has denied Croatia has problems. I'm not a politician and don't know any politicians so I'm not going to pretend I'm in the loop of the ruling elite and know what's really going on. But it seems to me as if the author of that article is trying to make the Racan government look bad. I'm not sure if Nacional and Pukanic are affiliated with HDZ but I seem to remember reading something to that effect. Contrast this report with that in Hina today about the Croatian economy taking off thanks to Sanader's reforms and one gets the impression of the HDZ coming to the rescue after the disastrous policies of Mesic and Racan. But like I said, I'm not in the loop so I can't know for sure. As they say, only hindsight is 20/20, we see everything else through the glass darkly.... www.hina.hr/nws-bin/genews.cgi?TOP=hot&NID=ehot/politika/H6159009.4yc

Actually star, I shouldn't have included you, my disagreements with you tend to be more about history.
As for u//2 (ghost) you called me a fool when I said this will happen sooner or later...I explained why, I explained where the debt is......mmmm what you like some sauce with that humble pie?

Regarding the government I am not saying they are good, the point is it is too easy for people like you to blame all the problems in Croatia onto a government who has had power for a couple of years in power.
This dissolves you of any responsibility and allows you to point the finger.
if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem.

So as usual the defence is...it happens everywhere else...when did usa nearly go bankrupt? I am not saying it didn't happen, but I can't remember it, and even if that did happen (provide a link please) USA has always had the industrial strength to see their way clear, Croatia has nothing, there are very few companies here that are a true force.
This has been easy to predict for some time now, the government has not had the money to pay its debts for a long time and that includes the time before hdz were elected.
Things should be getting better, unfortunately things are getting worse.
