Of course it’s highly valued, as it's about the only productive company left standing that is government run; beside the likes of Zagreb Parking and Zagreb Holding (both of which are privately owned by the Government). It’s a nice legal way for the Government to still own everything, but not been seen to have an outright monopoly. I firmly believe Zagreb Parking is the Mafia branch of the Government, abusing its powers left right and centre. No one can challenge them or take them to court due to the time involved to do so. Cro TV is the voice of the government, or used by them to discredit certain individuals, but on the whole their reporters are young and don't have the balls to ask the right questions. So, it's no wonder they tow the line and get rewards!
Croatia: Journalists one step from getting sacked 4 November 2009 | 14:54 | Source: Tanjug ZAGREB -- Four Croatian state TV HRT journalists have been reprimanded and warned that the next step taken by the broadcaster would see them sacked.
The four got in trouble after they gave statements about witnessing HRT Director Vanja Sutliæ insulting one of their colleagues for being married to a Serb.
Their attorney Èedo Prodanoviæ said that "events over the last several days", including pressure from the public, influenced a reversal of the decision to sack them.
The journalists' colleagues from HRT, other journalist, their associations and politicians all showed public support after they were threatened with losing their jobs.
The affair broke out when Lela Kneževiæ, Maja Sever, Sanja Mikleuševiæ Paviæ and Robert Zuber told media that they witnessed Sutliæ verbally abuse now former HRT correspondent from Belgrade Ivana Dragièeviæ Velièkoviæ, calling her a “Chetnik wh*re”, and banning her from participating in a humanitarian television show.
The journalists denied that they kept quiet on purpose for 20 months, adding that they informed their superiors about the incident, but that the five senior officials in the company "tried to solve the problem within the station".
This news came along with media reports that the top of Croatia's government has allegedly asked Sutliæ to "either resolve the situation at HRT or resign by November 5".
According to Zagreb daily Jutarnji List, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor made the demand in a meeting she had with Sutliæ several days ago.

and it is funny how the govt is trying to save the country from effects of recession by seemingly doing its best to save the former commy money makers such as ship building, varteks, podravaka etc...while at the same time those assets are being plundered. but the govt is doing absolutely nothing to create incentive for ordinary investpors and individuals who would like to start and run a small or large business in croatia successfully. that i rekon is the real problem. and behind that is stubborn commy mentality keeping the country from progressing, keeping unemployment high and rising, and investors running away from this idiculous system. the yhave to make it cheap, and easy to open and run a firm, and create a normal investor environment, which is pretty easy to do but they wont. instead they focus on former commy state owned firme. my prediction is that as long as this mentality rules this country ...that croatia will go deeper and deeper into dept and eventual ruin. i personaly rekon there is absolutely no hope for croatias economy. at all. but thats just my oppinion. the only thing keeping croatia from drowning is the scummy over valuation of the kuna, and the tourists that come for summer.
all they have to do is make it cheap and simple for investors, for people to start up businesses. that should be piss easy and cheap. not some beaurocratic headache money trap set by the govt. if they just did that it would be a great start. why cant anyone open a firm and make apartment buildings. ? why cant anyone open a yacht charter business? a hairdressing chain ? etc... etc... just cant. a fish farm? you need bloody connections. so many people would be employed quickly. all over the place. 4 mill people and we have unemployment. yet they dont make it cheap and easy to open firms...amazing.

galant... I'm with you on this! The Gov. need to do away with submission of books every three months, and keep it to every 12 months. They also need to allow people to do away with full-time accountants. Better yet, allow people to submit their own books online or in paper form. Then of course there are the stupid taxes such as the monthly forest tax and what not. They do have the option for sole trader so to speak, but even that is difficult. Most businesses have to open under the d.o.o. or limited banner, which comes with way to many strings attached. There are some things they could toughen up on like minimum wage, mandatory payment of employees each month and what not. Their inspectors also need to be more understanding, to offer people the benefit of the doubt and not just shut folks down for a month (which I heard is often the case for shops or rentals). We have to remember that this is a sotic state, worked by the people for the state, and not the other way around. Just think of yourself as a Borg --- individuality isn’t good.
