I'm not sure what communist food would be but the attitude is certainly in place. Everywhere has the same rather dull menu. You can drive to a stunning out of the way location and discover a small interesting restuarant. You excitedly wonder what great food you will discover.... Mmmm chavapi, zagrebacki steak, same as everywhere. It takes a lot of the fun out of travel and I think they are missing something important.

And for a writer, the article was very childish, although there where a few good points, the manner in which it was written makes it seem very biased (probably written as a satire). Obviously the guy doesn’t know what a communistic meal consists off. No deep fried fish and chips, deep fried pork in bread crumbs, deep fried ground pork smothered with paprika powder (chavapi) and rolled into mini turd looking things, deep boiled sausages... and plenty of bread, oh, and something they call noodle soup. To eat on a budget, just choose pizza. You can't go wrong, unless the cook is drunk.

@ Crojoe,
With pizza you can't go wrong ? That is what I thought until 2 weeks ago. Was in Rovinj in a restaurant (if you can call it a restaurant), cola bought in Lidl, pasta without any taste (no salt, no peper, nothing) and pizza........... was a frozen pizza from Lidl as well, uneatable if you ask me.
So yes, unfortunately they can also screw up a pizza. LOL

Boris, you cannot say this, as the writer is Jewish, smacks on antisemitism!

Then there's "pizza" and pizza ! ; as far as I can remember , every piece of so called "pizza" I ever had , or even looked at , in Croatia and Slovenia , was far too thick and dough-ey and then : stingy in toppings and condiments (army or Red Cross rations , like ? ) ; - since there are over 1 million Itaes ( and/or their descendants ) in Belgium , we easily get some really fine stuff here ( and , if desperate , turn to Dr. Oetker "vegetale" version , from any supermarket , just add a few preferred toppings - but for a real McCoy , I sincerely recommend zonne pietonne in Nice ( France ) , "cuit au feau du bois" : pancake-thin crust , interesting tasty toppings , spiced oils , easy-price good quality reds in carafes , don't even start me on the appearances of assorted females , sitting nearby or just passing ...

Far be it from me to defend Croatia.
However... I have read Mr.Rounds work previously and ignorant of the history of Jews... he is not. He knew before googling what happened in WWII and this formed his bias. Such bias prejudices your feelings about everything. It was a cowardly covert attack, in essences he's bullschitting. We all know what happened in WWII... we are all disgusted by it... but does every article a Jewish writer releases need to full of such prejudice? Hotel food is expensive? Wow! really? Since when did expensive hotel food become exclusive to Croatia? The article is a waste of time.

Worthless and pointless article.
Is he a real journalist, or a spotty adolescent?
How long have you been using the 'Kunar'?
