Stupid list... who is to say somebody living in a tree in a jungle doesn't enjoy their life more than somebody commuting and working 100 hours a week in Manhattan?

yes it suggests that Finland is the best, but I don't think everyone is suddenly going to pack up their bags and emigrate there.

I'm pretty sure Finland has one of the highest suicide rates in the world... a lot of those Northern countries with little light in winter do.

Finland rates highly for a few things - best education in Europe, first country to introduce broadband as a human right (read somewhere recently), but quality of life? I did a consultancy up there one December and everyone was battered by 9pm. I always thought the Brits on a Friday night were unbeatable, but we have nothing on our Finnish neighbours.

The criteria for this list are purely academic and real time conditions are not taken into consideration, so I think we can safely forget about this list.

Agree ! A list of total nonsense ( "stats" ) ! ( You only have to meet any dozen Finns around here , going ga-ga , about how " much nicer" it it is to live hereabouts , like France , Benelux etc...gotta be something in that vodka , they so adore ? )

IF ONLY I were 20 ( or more ) years younger and/or healthier , you could safely bet , I'd make it to Toronto , Ontario , or even Montreal , Quebec... for good , by hook or by crook , before the coming weekend... ( Not the case anymore , in my case , sadly...)
On the 3rd thought , if I had to earn/live I recommend Cape Town , too ; unless you are lucky enough to spend a few years in Emirates , Singapore , HongKong and suchlike/s... EU is just totally horrible nowadays , from costs to ( awful ! ) food to more costs , every meter you turn to...and such Baaad ( (non) service !!!; anyone who willingly chooses to live there in , requires a really good psychiatriast , IMHO !

Jadran in the summer, and halfway up a mountain on the Costa del Sol in the winter.
Neither perfect, but I've lived in much more difficult circumstances.
Like HMPUK ferinstance......

Lepoglava ? Yeah , I just Must remember to visit there next time I get around HR-Zagorje ( shame on you , F. , for not pointing this out to me , last time around , when all else around us was so crashing and in freefall , especially all the crooked U.K. banks , anyway ! ) ; and then there's that other one , that I always forget to visit , but hope to manage , before the grim reaper takes care of my affairs : IVANEC ! Have you been there , yet ?

Lepoglava is currrently filled with "trusties" (a strange epithet for a felon) and Remetinec is "staffed" by those caught or awaiting trial as a result of an infection of Uskok - which a lot more people may contract before the year is out.
Ivanec is my father-in-law's home town. They have the Ivanscica mountain which is a beautiful place to visit but as far as Ivanec is concerned, we're still waiting for something to happen there.

So , what do ya reckon : might happen in Ivanec ? ( Sorry , just preparing the the facts and figures , towards my next visit...) Cheers fro La Capitale of EU , R.
