I had problems with this company. They are only booking agents (they were based in Greece) and they rely on a local agent to supply the service. When we arrived at Split airport the rental company claimed to know nothing of the rental and had run out of cars anyway. I then found we had no real contractual rights. In the end we were helped by the rental company to get a car from another rental company. So go in with your eyes open.

I've used them twice. Zagreb Airport, service was excellent and professional. Pula Airport, less so - the car was empty of petrol, almost literally, and it wasn't the clean, almost new, idea of a rental car you might expect. I think the car's real owner turned up to collect it too, well I gave him the keys and he boogered off. Cheap though, both times !

You take your chance with all these companies, though Economy has been fine for me in the past. Last two rentals I have gone with www.oryx-rent.hr because I got a free upgrade.

There was an issue in the year that the recession hit with the Croatian car companies not being able to get hold of a good supply of cars. So, that would have been in the summer of 2009.
That was the year that the price of car rental went through the roof in Croatia and people with bookings were turning up to be told there were no cars available. Also, rightly or wrongly, the car hire companies (e.g. Hertz, Europcar, etc) were giving preference to their own, direct customers over the ones who'd booked via a broker.
Was it 2009 that you had the bad experience, Indianlindsay?
PS I think the problem went something like:- The car hire firms go to the Citroen, Honda etc dealerships and lease the cars for the summer. Then in October, they return most of the cars which are sold onto the general public. However, the dealerships had a lot of trouble getting rid of the summer 2008 cars and they cut right down on the number of cars they'd lease for 2009. Its all back to normal now though.

This is an old thread. I think that you have the right year. It was the year that I used www.economycarrentals.com but as they were a booking agent they had no libility when I arrived at Split Airport and found there was no car. Annual policies from www.insurance4carhire.com/ are very good for covering car hire excess

I thought about buying a van for business but found it cheaper to just rent one when needed. No fuss about breakdown costs, inspection and so forth.
