I have a tourist apartment that I have now rented to guests - all Bosinans - 4 live in Austria and 4 came from Bosnian. They also arrived with 2 more people than booked, and I found them accommodation in the village - which was not easy as everyone was booked. so a total of 10 people.
They are by far the strangest guests I have ever had. My apartment is 5 meters from the sea with a big terrace. The studio for the 2 guests has a view direct to the sea and is also very big.
THey have closed the blinds and shutters to the house on every window. They do this night and day. They never go on the terrace at my house or the other house. When I knock on the door to deliver towels they open it 4 cm only and then shut it.
In my house we clean the apartments (toilets, change towels, vac) every 2 days. They will not let my cleaning lady into the apartment.
They are aggressive when talking to me and aggressive when talking to my cleaning lady. It is as if they go out of their way to be rude and nasty.
I really do not understand their attitude and I have never seen this before in people who should be having fun on vacation,.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on here?

Are you sure that there only that many people inside? Do they ever come out? Day or night? Perhaps hiding others . . How long are they staying for?

I trust they paid in advance, in full?

The whole thing sounds a bit "dodgy" as you say in the UK. The fact that they won't let the cleaning lady in is a red flag in my book. If I owned the apartment I would be very concerned. I would make up something like you believe your water heater is leaking and you have to go inside and check it out as soon as possible. You need to get in there and take a look around. No normal people act this way, especially in a guest house on vacation.

I'm with Ivetron but don't bother with the excuses. A straightforward "you won't let the cleaner in, so I am suspicious" would make the position clear. It may be rude but in these circumstances, it isn't.

Is there a policeman in the village? If he/she is any good, I'd at least let them know before making the move. Or go with some good friends. Very strange behaviour.

Yeah, I'd get the police involved. Please be safe. Don't want to see you on the news!!!

Is this a call for another attack on innocent tourists by the Croatian police in violation of the basic human rights? Is it based on thier ethnicity or religion?

I think it's based on their suspicious behaviour. Maybe they're running a holiday brothel or perhaps a meth lab. These things do happen.

Then let's lock them up in Guantanamo!

Then let's lock them up in Guantanamo! Oh I see, you're presuming that they are Muslim. Is that right ? I hadn't thought about which relegious group they belong to. Maybe they did just come to the seaside to spend all their time indoors.

I am not assuming anything. Just supprised with the level of interference into private life from someone involved in the tourism industry.

I wanted to give an update. They had paid in full and continued their aggressive and strange behavior. They did not come out but they started to be very loud in the house at night. I knocked on the door and said as per the rules in the house they were disturbing other guests and not observing quiet time. Two men and 1 woman came out. The woman was so angry saying I had no right to say this as it was their house for the period they paid. They were Very aggressive. I told them that as homeowner that their aggressive behavior was not acceptable and uncalled for as I had only helped them when they came with extra guests and had not disturbed them during their stay. They continued the vitriol and I then asked them to leave. I gave them their money back for remaining days and watched them pack up.
The apartment was extremely dirty and some of the linen I could not clean and had to throw it out. Two living room chairs, and 1 ormar were broken. I still do not understand what was happening but suspect that at some points there were extra people that they had let in and that they were watching for when I was sleeping to let them in and out.
There was one other very strange thing I just started to worry about. They had lots of computers and electronic equipment. I mean they carried out boxes of it. We have high speed internet in the house for the business. My husband is not here at the moment. Is there something they could have been doing with that equipment on my IP address that I could get in trouble for.? Can not think why this was needed for holiday. I have T mobile internet. Would they be able to check for the period the guests were here if there was strange usage? What would I ask?
