I am investigating the posibility of spending 6-9 months in Croatia in order to write a book and would like advice on living costs, places where one could secure a little part time work to sustain the operation, and good locations for a long stay with my laptop. I was also wandering if anyone knew of any hotel, hostel or other where room and board is offered in return for helping out with the day to day running of the business.

A bit of Catch 22 situation: Croatia is cheapest in off season: late Autumn, Winter and Spring. At that time there is a very little demand for casual work.

Hiya Poppy. I currently live and work in London, but I start a new job in Zagreb on 01-09-03. In Zagreb, you'll find pretty much everything you need, however there are some beautiful islands alond the southern part of the Adriatic coast. I've just spent a fortnight on the island of brac which was wonderful. If you need any further advice, please feel free to e-mail me @ dan.armstrong@uk.easynet.net.
