The news this morning is that David Haines has been killed by IS. An absolutely awful thing to do.
He has a Croatian wife and daughter, I believe. Goodness knows what they must be going through today.
Is it making headlines in the Croatian news?

Kind of... "The husband of a Croatian....." rather than "a selfless foreign aid worker" but I guess that's probably the case everywhere.

Kind of... "The husband of a Croatian....." rather than "a selfless foreign aid worker" but I guess that's probably the case everywhere. While I think the killing of an aid worker is so wrong (not like the guy was selling arms), it is a tragic story that the West is using it to build up it's verbal defense for something. I mean, our Western governments where more then willing to go in after Hussein, willing to see thousands upon thousands of Iraqis killed as collateral damage but now just watching and waiting (with a few attacks). In all honesty we should have just stayed out of those countries period, but we all know why the Western governments went in... OIL! Seems David is from Scotland (has a teenage daughter there) but was bases out of Croatia. He was there during the Balkan war years, so pretty dedicated. Yesterday saw on the news as they stopped people on the street in Perth (Scotland), most didn't have the foggiest about the situation. They are now calling him a son of Scotland. Guess it now suits them, but where where they for the other period he was a hostage? Never heard anything. Anyway, May he RIP and his family be comforted! Hope the Croatian government are trying to help his family?

Did they go in for oil? I don't know why they went in. I know it wasn't why they said they were going in (weapons of mass desctruction).
I know lots of people said if its wasn't WMD, then it was the oil... but they didn't get any oil from the invasion either, so if it was for oil, then it must have been a failed mission.

Carol, they did get oil and cheaply. Even now Isil are selling oil via Turkey and a few other black market routes for like $40 a barrel, when the world price is up at $100, and once transferred it then goes onto whoever wants to buy it. There is not much else in Iraq the world wants, so as long as the oil flows cheaply then certain corporate powers that be are happy. Governments don't run policy, business does.

The only other thing Iraq has to offer is location. If you wanted a base in the Middle East, from which to launch pro-US/ anti-islam extremist operations, then you could do much worse than Iraq. not that they've used ti for that.
You may be right about the oil... the world has been flooded with cheap imports... I've never heard of that before.

Kind of... "The husband of a Croatian....." but I guess that's probably the case everywhere. In the UK it would be more like 'A British resident, originally from Croatia...' with the marital status included much lower down, and even then not pointing out the nationality of the spouse. So quite different I'd say.
