Last night I was watching an old recording of a UK consumer TV programme about fake goods and the efforts to catch and prosecute the people selling them. Items included vodka, golf clubs, washing powder and holiday apartments. I was wondering if anyone knows whether there are fake mobile phone top-up vouchers on sale in Croatia? Just before Christmas I was trying to make a call but got a message saying that my credit has expired. I probably still had about 150 Kn credit but if you don't make a call every 30 days or whatever they cut you off until you top up again. I bought a 50 Kn voucher from a street kiosk in the centre of Durdevac but when I tried to enter it on the phone I got a message saying something like "The number you entered is unassigned". The woman at the kiosk does not speak English and I don't speak Croatian so I can't take the voucher back to complain. It is a Tomato sim. I was advised to use Tomato as I was told their roaming charges are the lowest. My village does not tend to get a signal but if we do it is on Hungarian phone networks. I often just leave my Hungarian sim card in the phone if I am only going to be in the village. The Croatian sim is only of use when I'm travelling around within Croatia or I'm expecting a call/text on that number.

Thanks January. I just tried to purchase a top-up online via the Bonbonijera website. Unfortunately they use a format that won't translate properly plus it uses popups that also don't translate. I had hoped to be able to buy the credit at the Tomato website which can be set to English language but it looks like they don't offer such a service. Are there any sites like Bonbonijera that have an English language option?

I actually gave up on the Croatia sim card in the end as it seemed more trouble than it was worth. I do not get a signal at my house anyway, only from Hungary. I do have a Vodafone Hungary sim and recently added a UK giffgaff sim. I had hoped to be able to get mobile internet with the giffgaff one but it does not work. I am told that mobile internet does not work on roaming, is this correct?
