Do we need a green card to cross the Bosnian border at neum Nope, just passport.. I doubt the basic UK insurance covers Bosnia (it's outside the EU zone), which could be a costly extra if they demand you have insurance to travel their bit of highway. Just contact your insurance company as they might be able to issue you with an insurance green card and include Bosnia for cheap. Otherwise driving in the EU does not require a green card (although check about Spain). Just a print-out of your insurance cover letter will do. You also don't need the paper part of your driving license, just the plastic photo part. Always carry your passport with you at all times when out and about. Austria and Slovenia both have Vignette stickers you must buy (by law) if you drive on their highways (big fines if you don't and Slovenia have crews out on their highways checking). Don't stop for anyone broken down that looks "gypsy" (sorry not being racist...just fact), but they are known to pretend breakdowns (even driving in front of you and waving you down) and while your being kind they rob you blind. Try not to use French rest stops for sleeping (people have been gassed and robbed). German and Austrian ones are ok. Try and fully tank up with fuel in Belgium or Austria to avoid tanking in Germany (very pricy). If you have any accidents abroad make sure you take you own photo's of the scene (vehicle and street layout) and get police report. In Slovenia both parties pay a fine for calling out the police (on the spot). Slovenian police have a bit of history of being corupt, so make sure you demand a person to talk to in English. Hope this stuff helps a bit! Happy travels! Found this info on the web... so no idea if up to date. driveeuropenews.com/2013/04/29/driving-down-to-dubrovnik-more-difficult-this-summer/

Slovenian police are indeed horribly corrupt. Crossing the border from Italy going to Zagreb. The vignette purchase office was cordoned off and closed and there was a hand painted sign which said 'vignettes 200 mts' so we carry on 200 mts.... No further signage or visible place to buy a vignette from. So we imagine we must be able to buy at the entrance to the motorway. Nope! We just get fined euro 150 (for a 15 euro vignette) along with ALL the other FOREIGN vehicles. What a scam. I can tell you I was spitting feathers......still am when I think about it. Get your vignette from a garage in Italy way before the border!
