Looks like another foreign investment is getting a bashing in the media... European Coastal Airlines. After reading the INDEX report I do have to say the reporter was a bit bias, but then again we all know about that with news agencies and reporters (even foreign ones). Kind of sad really as this is a good opportunity for Croatia. Then again, who is to know the truth about how the company is run behind the scenes? A lot about employee problems (not to uncommon a problem in Croatia). Does seem they have some money problems, so that won't help! I can fully understand the owners plight and frustration trying to launch something new in Croatia. Now he knows, if he didn't already! I kind of hope he can weather the media storm, but looks like someone has it in for him. That's what happens in Croatia when you stick your neck out ... someone is always waiting with a noose to hang you! Ironic how they talk about the ECA headquarter building being simple when Zagreb airport isn't much more then a glorified hanger. Plus how they bang on about repairs when Croatian airlines are all leased older planes with their own set of problems. Will be interesting to see how far the media take this one! All I can say for the owners is his best approach is to be pro-active ... get rival news agencies in on the story and refute the accusations (or clean his act up).

I would take the TCN article concerning ECA with a grain of salt as they have invested interest.

This story just thickens. Seems a similar parent/child company in Denmark has connections to the Croatian company and now both have been grounded. Whats not being told?

Sadly the 25th has come and almost gone on the ECA saga. Seems some other issues with ECA have come to the attention of the Croatian Air safety directive. Such a bad time to get an inspection, as no doubt it's the high season on the coast. I always thought that was so unfair in Croatia, especially for small businesses where finance inspectors can close cafes and shops because of minor infractions (incorrect labeling or to much change in the till). For an airlines, it's a bit more serious, but sure ECA are loosing money like crazy!

ECA have announced on Facebook that all flights will resume on Saturday 27th August after meeting all inspection criteria.

Just one of their planes may start tomorrow, the other two are still grounded!

Looks like they took flight again and one of their planes is no longer grounded! Wish them well!

That's an interesting one, Ribaric. Is there reciprocity on this? Would the UK be able to prevent a Croatian estate agency from selling property to or on behalf of UK citizens? I doubt it's possible to be a foreign company to buy and sell property in Croatia without going through the legal channels in Croatia. They can advertise it no doubt like many do, but at the end of the day there needs to be proof of payment and legal papers signed in Croatia, taxes etc. But it is possible to act as an agent in the UK for Croatia property for sale or rent.

I'd take that story on TCN with a grain of salt seeing they did have "some" invested interests in that business as paying advertisers on the TCN web site. But I am sure there are some truths. Like we all know, Croatia is a tough market for any business that is on a tight budget. I have seen countless foreign owned companies come and go just like many Croatian companies. Over taxed, too much red tape and bumbling bureaucrats not fit for their posts and way to much power in a few peoples hands. I am sure there where powers that be behind the scenes trying to squelch this business but then at the same time maybe not all the capital "T's" where crossed and "i" doted on this fledgling business?
