Hi everyone,
I am seeking some advice on what it takes to obtain citizenship or a work visa in Croatia. I have emailed and called the consulate in New York and Los Angeles and have received very little help. Here is my situation:
I was born in Bosnia in 1992 to two Bosnian parents. My mother considers herself Croatian because her mother was born in Croatia. My father considers himself Serbian because he was born to Serbian parents. Is there any way to obtain Croatian Citizenship based solely off the fact that my grandmother was born in Croatia? I currently am a U.S citizen as well as a citizen of Bosnia.
If not, then how realistic would it be to obtain a work visa in Croatia? Do companies typically sponsor? I have heard of the EU Blue Card and I was wondering if I qualified for the “highly skilled individual” condition (I have a bachelors in accounting, masters in accounting, and a CPA at 25 years of age).
Basically, my goal is to move to Croatia in 2018 to start a new life and I am seeking the easiest way possible to make this transition. You guys/gals have any advice?

I'm trying to stay positive Boris but, as capo asks, why on earth would you do this? There are virtually no jobs here, those that are here are paid very poorly. Those of us who survive do so through either via a pension/income or via business, sometimes both. Getting a work permit as a non EU citizen is just as difficult as a European getting a green card and a work visa in the US. If you are special, a doctor, already rich, supreme sportsman or you have the right friends, give it a try. If not, don't. ruralpropertycroatia.com

I understand what you guys are saying. My goal is to apply to several accounting firms which provide services similar to the accounting firm that I currently work at here in the U.S. If I were to obtain a position at one of these firms, I don’t necessarily see what the problem would be.
I assume these firms would pay a fair market salary based on Croatia’s cost of living. I have the luxury of always going back to the U.S if things don’t work out but I figured I’d give Croatia a chance while I’m still young and don’t have any true responsibilities (Kids, etc.) here in the U.S.

I totally agree with your comment. I am in the process of applying to several accounting American accounting firms that have offices in Croatia. I figured this would be my best chance at finding a job that will value my license and experience.

HI All,
I requested Croatian Citizenship since my father has a Domovnica. There has been two years since I completed documentation and submitted in MUP and I am still waiting for a respond. Do you guys know how long this can take ? until "resenje" a decision has to be done. Thanks !
