When I bought my house there was no septic tank, just a 110 mm pipe, putting raw sewage onto what turned out to not be my land! The seller had split off the agricultural parts of her total holding to sell separately and the pipe went onto that agricultural part. I put in a septic tank which is actually a modified plastic heating oil tank. This is in 3 sections with baffles between, so I fitted 3 emptying points. I did not know what size these should be so just used normal brown 110 mm underground sewage pipe. That was over 4 years ago and I had never had the tank emptied so this week I went to the local goverment office to ask if they knew someone who could empty it. A man duly appeared with a tractor and tank trailer but it was soon apparent that he would not be able to do the job. His suction pipe is 180 mm so it will not go in my emptying pipes. I will have to try to get bigger pipe but is there a specification for this? My cottage in Scotland is also on a septic tank but I have never seen it as it is shared with the hotel next door.

Correction, the existing pipes are 160 mm, not 110 mm. I have found they do make these plastic sewage pipes in 250 mm but not sure where I can buy them.
