Hi All, I'm looking to buy an apartment in Croatia to use in the low season and to rent out in high season. We have 4 children so we were planning to use bunk beds to make most effective use of the space, but we've heard that bunk beds are not permitted by the Ministry of Tourism, so if we had a double bed and 2 bunks, we'd only be able to rent it out as a "2 bed" apartment, and would only be able to register 2 visitors with the local authority. Is this right? I've had a look at the conditions (I assume this is the most recent version: narodne-novine.nn.hr/clanci/sluzbeni/dodatni/299821.htm) and I can't find anything explicitly referring to bunk beds. Is there any way around this? I don't want to have to cram everyone in side by side just because the tourist board doesn't like bunk beds. Cheers, MattLG

If this is the requirements just buy bunk beds that separate so 2 beds apply for your license you can then if required put them back together if needed

My fear with that idea is that with the beds next to each other, we'll just be rejected as they're too crammed in.

I have bunk beds in my apartments, and then we could only get "category" for four persons, but who cares? We are happily renting out for six people, paying tourist tax and nobody complains. Over the years, we have also had inspectors visiting without them commenting.

But if you've only got approval for 4 people, doesn't the system only let you register and pay tourist tax for 4 people?

Nope. There is no cross checking and I have registered and payed tourist tax for 13 years now. And by the way is advertising everywhere too so it is no secret.
