Has anyone gone to Split by flying to Pescara? This would involve getting a train to Ancona and then getting the ferry from there. Has anybody got any experience of this route? Any problems (especially with the Italian public transport)? Is it difficult to get to Pescara town from Pescara airport?

It is not difficult if you do not have loads of luggage. There is a bus service from Pescara aiport to the train station. Ther eis about 5 min walk from the bus stop to the station and the platforms in Pescara are quite complicated, staff does not speak English and you need to find someone who speaks English to buy your train ticket. Also the taxi will cost you almost the same as the plane ticket if you take one. When you reach Ancona there is a bus to porto in front of the station -again a bit of walk when you get off the bus in the port. Re ferry if you do not book it long before you do not get a cabin and even not a seat sometimes so you need to sleep on the floor. Many Italians have blankets and they occupy all floor areas to not to pay for the cabin so I advise you to take a sleeping bag with you just in case. Good luck!
