Thanks!

Thanks Mala, but it is not really for me to say who offers the best value. I would be tempted to say us even though I am a modest sort of guy Seriously, the cheapest are often not the best and you can get caught for all sorts of surcharges and rip off damage claims. We do try hard with the car rental, but we still get clients causing me to pull my hair out by doing things such as leaving the keys in a bag on the beach (together with passports etc) and walking off, only to wonder why they are not there when they return.

The only company that will allow you to take a car from Italy into Croatia and provide you with the necessary insurance is Sixt , Italy. We have a contract with them and if you want you can book with us. Our car hire prices with Sixt italy are on our website www.croatianvillas.com under additional services. Tara

Sorry Tara, you are not correct.
We do not work with Sixt and yet we arrange car rental from Trieste into Croatia on an almost daily basis!

I'll second that!! I have used Europcar (or whatever they are called) and Hertz - both without a problem. I did overhear some guy in the Avis counter next to me having a problem.
I think you just have to make sure you have the green insurance card and that it is makred on the rental contract.

I'll go with Graham on this. Most of the people coming to see our properties are coming via Trieste and hiring cars at the airport there. Sixt, Maggiore and Hertz have all hired customers to our clients in the last week.
Cheers

Does anyone know how much car hire companies at Trieste charge for the extra insurance required to take the car into Slovenia and Croatia?
Thanks

We charge no extra for any cars taken into Croatia, neither do we charge extra if you want to hire from Trieste and drop off somewhere else in Italy such as Venice (Marco Polo or Treviso) where you can sometimes get flights back to the UK cheaper than Trieste.
The thing to look out for is how much support you will get from the hire company if you get a problem in Croatia or Slovenia. Because we rent the cars under a Tour Operator agreement the level of support that we can offer tends to be higher then offered by the local rental offices at the airports.
At the end of the day the choice is up to you and what risks you are prepared to take to save money.

Graham I've actually already booked the car-hire at a very good price (Hertz) so using your company isn't an option in this case. I was told to sort out the matter of using the car in SLO/CRO locally.
Is there anyone who has used Hertz recently for this that can advise what costs if any are associated?
thanks

We recently hired with Hertz via the Ryanair site. Cost £135 for a week.
