Finally got a booking sorted at Hotel Neptun, chosen mainly for its location. Alas, Croatia in July seems a long way away from a grey January day in London.

I would ask for a sea room view only because the back rooms are next to the alley and every morning at 6:15 the garbage trucks comes through for about 15 minutes. The noise is unbearable and you can't close the windows because there is no air conditioning so it gets very hot in the room. Unless you like to get up at 6:15.

I didn't specify when I booked, but I noticed they allocated me a sea view without being asked. I was half-minded to ask for a room with a view of the Basilica instead, but after reading your post I will rest content with my sea view!

It's a pain to park near the hotel as well!

It is a pain to park almost anywhere in Porec town during the summer! Out at the hotel complexes it is not so bad, but they are not to everyones taste by any means.

Just as well then that I will be arriving by boat from Venice, not by car. It has to be a more civilised way!

Certainly is David - and you will have to walk at least 30 metres to the hotel! You are not making your ferry bookings elsewhere are you David there goes your chance of a free cup of coffee on board!

I booked it using the Venezia Lines website. As I'm going VIP class I'm hoping for a free glass of something stronger than coffee!

No free booze David, and you have missed the delights of dealing with Ann in our office
