The problem with the no - frills carriers centre around the fact that few of them are making money. Duo called in the receivers this week and yesterday Easyjet shares fell 25%. Thompsonfly have major problems at Coventry airport. The chances are that a few more of the smaller carriers will fail after the summer season. Proposals for 'bonding' of the no - frills carriers will increase their rates etc....
All is not well with the world of 'low cost - low frills' but there again some of the bigger package holiday companies such as MyTravel / Airtours (shares only 8p) and Thomas Cook AG manage to loose massive amounts of money as well. The failure of a large carrier could prove interesting and may even bring some reality back into the market where it costs more to park a car at the airport than it does for a flight.
Anyone else got further thoughts about this?

yes you are right. however concerning germanwings. and cologne. until now this area of germany (cologne/dusseldorf) did have a poor connection to croatia. so there is almost no competition towards croatia airlines or another carrier.
as germanwings is a subdivision of Lufthansa, i do not fear that they will get trouble...

Well said Graham. Duo Airways collapsed last weekend and we at Holiday Options used them on TWO of our Sardinia flights. Customers booking DIRECT with Duo will not receive a penny but those booked through travel agencies or tour operators will be covered either financially or accommodated on other flights !! There lies the hidden danger to the public of these "No frills" airlines !!!
Your point Graham about parking too is so valid - what a crazy world we live in !!
Good luck to Germanwings though !!! Is the German market to Croatia down on 2003 - I am hearing conflicting reports ?

recently, i read that compared to last year, during the first three months the number of german tourists went up about 50%, the number of nights german tourists stayed went even about 70% up this year.
right now, there is a huge advertising campaign promoting croatia on german tv. each day there are tv-programs on croatia and even tv-spots.

hi!
prices start at 18 EUR one-way (tax included). This is some kind of a starting rate, so the later you book the higher becomes the price.

This is so cool. And you can get connecting flights to Gatwick from Koln I think.
