According to Croatian newspapers 240.000 foreign tourists entered Croatia this weekend. Most of them were Germans, Austrians and Slovenes. And 160.00 left Croatia at the same time.

It might be packed but there are still hundreds of people wanting to go during peak season and think that they can turn up to this lovely quiet city as shown in photos taken a few years back. We even get idiots wanting fery tickets across the Adriatic for families who have babies just a few months old and they are just going to chance it on somewhere to stay. I just feel sorry for the babies in the heat of the summer whilst their parents wander about trying to find somewhere to stay. Up until a couple of years ago Croatia was mainly visted by persons who enjoyed travel and appreciiated the country they were visiting, but now we are seeing many more of the 'it is the place to go' and 'bucket and spade' people. Still that is progress and it may help to extend the season a little more.

Also, as it is becoming more popular to different markets, it can also lengthen the season.
E.G In Ireland schoolkids gets 13 weeks off school in the summer (we don't have half terms etc...) so our summer holidays are taken over a far longer time than the traditional 6 week holiday period in the UK and other European countries. As a result it can expand the destination country's high season. (Ireland's population is so small it wouldn't have a dramatic affect alone) Loyalty - Croatia is a country that appears to appeal to visitors to return year after year, and travel to different parts of the country, so I guess if people go for their first time, see how beautiful it is, but see how difficult it is to get ferries, accommodation etc... and deal with the heat, then the next time they go, they may opt for May, June and September instead...eventually if enough people do this then the season will lengthen.

P.S.. Where do the 160,000 Croats who leave the country generally go to on their holidays?

I'd say those were all foreigners that arrived earlier! Although, this summer Tunisia is becoming very popular in Zagreb - 10 days there (with plane ticket) is cheaper than a week on the Adriatic (transport not included). But I'd say most Croats are still faithful to Adriatic only during the summer.

We are coming in at the end of August 30th, we shouldn't need to book camping places should we???
We haven't decided exactly where we'll go yet, but we're coming from Venice & so i guess we'll stop Zadar-ish region for a bit before moving further south.
(sorry if this is off topic!)
