The same can be said for Croatian. I've seen plenty of American film titles and Actors names are changed to be spelt phonetically in Croatian ;D Huh? Where? That's definitely not by Croatian grammar. . In Magazines. Lol Dzoni Dep?

Thanks Gary, don't be jealous, I only have time for a short walk, have to go to work to earn my daily bread! The temperature on my balcony is 25 degrees at the moment. Tko ovo može platiti? If you need translation, people, just ask! CU later.

You guys got it all wrong, it means 'who would pay for my sheep'. Pixel is right about the translation Slatkica, you never see Croatian media translate names like that. Serbia on the other hand make an art out of it.

I believe there are more reasons why many young Croatian speak English.
1. Nearly all the movies they watch in cinemas and on TV are in English. 2. They and their parents know that if they ever want to travel outside of Croatia, English is the most useful language to have. 3. English books are plentiful and easy to come by. 4. All their cousins in the US, Australia, Holland, UK and (even) Germany and Austria speak English. 5. They need to know English if they want a good job working for an international company. 6. They need to be able to speak English if they want to work in the tourist industry. 7. CNN, CNBC and Sky are all in English. 8. Most popular music are in English.
I think it is more to do with NEEDS rather then ability. I know, some of you will correct me and tell me that Croatian children are more clever!

Owl: that is the most stupid thing I have ever read! We are talking about adults not children. Croatian children are no better or worse on average than children of other countries on average. On average the country are born in is not what makes us more stupid or more clever. The differences in adulthood result from the way we are brought up and from the education we receive. Croat children are taught languages from an early age until the end of their education (7- 18ish?), unless they get a degree, in which case its from 7 - 23. English children are typically taught french or german for about 4 hours a week from the age 11- 15.
It is a well established fact that languages are more easily learned in childhood. The complaint from "enigma", who I suspect has used a few psyeudonyms to post here over the last few years, is that the people who came to croatia as adults have not learned Croatian well. I was answering that point. Not asking fro a replay of the much loved "small nation syndrome" of we are the best at everything 9which you are not: look at your GDP for God's sake!)

If some people think Croats are born with super genes that enables them to learn languages easier they're not the brightest.
Small countries have to learn languages otherwise they're very limited.
The Dutch speak English better than most English people, Swedes and Danes too. Italy, Spain and France are not the best at English but they're major countries why would they be? it is easier to get by in English in Germany that it is in Croatian, plus German is much easier for an English speaker to learn than Croatian as it comes from the same language group.
Croatia is no better than average in Europe when it comes to English... try speak English in a supermarket where uneducated people work and expect to hear grunts and kako over and over...
I had never heard one word of Croatian until I was in my 20's whereas Croat's watch English tv all day and listen to English music... as well as having many hours of English at school. It's hardly a level playing field...that said I do think our schools in England should push the importance of foreign languages more. Sadly the reality is for the vast majority of Brits, other than being able to navigate themselves slightly easier whilst on holiday...a foreign language will not improve their life and will rarely help with their career aspirations.

None of the Croatians I know are tolerant of racism. It would be interesting to know how many of these Croatians you know have ever had any direct personal dealing with a non Caucasian or non Christian person in their lifetime.

Too right, they always mention the colour of someone's skin, if it is not white. They also have problems with people of no religion, particularly if they haven't been baptised...

My 70 year-old neighbour calls me the antichrist, she is the most devout Catholic I have ever met, but we still have a laugh because I don't go to church and every Sunday she offers to give me a lift there, but I always reply that I'm working......ON A SUNDAY!

I was thinking of how Croats treat Bosnians. I know that they are the same race, but racism is the closest word I know. I've personally witnessed some horrible things for which the man concerned should be locked up either in jail or a mental assylum, but instead the police turn a blind eye - even when he's pointing a rifle at people and saying he'll use it to shoot bosnians. There are bad and mad people in every country. Its how you deal with them that counts. saying "well he's entitled.. after all he is croatian and they are incomers" is not acceptable IMO.

RACISM is probably not the right word. Perhaps the word "TRIBAL" is closer ?
