Pocketvenus, you're one to talk about peoples accents. My wife speaks English with a less annoying accent than yours and she's never even lived in an English speaking country. There is nowt wrong with my accent thank you very much. Perhaps I just speak too clearly and pronounce the sound a as a and not e. Most Croats find me easier to understand than Southerners! ;D

"Septic tank twang." i.e using American words and phrases. R U sure? Hey, that's about me! I see no problem in that because Croatians have always had strong connections with USA, especially West Coast. I understand where twang comes from but can't grasp the meaning of "septic tank" phrase. .

Well, I understand you all, guys. Err... except for that Ribaric guy. That's Kaykavian, innit? It's funny how we get criticized for quarreling with Serbs, while you Anglo-Saxon people bicker over petty things all the time. .

Well, well, it's getting more and more interesting here. Even passionate! At school we had a great English teacher with a sense of humour and she told us that Brits are cold and reserved. Look at this comparisons: passionate - more passionate - wow! passionate- less passionate - English! Ever heard of George Mikes (HOW TO BE AN ALIEN)?- Highly recommended. BTW, Ribariæ, don't write hrvatski /kajkavski with capital letter- it's not correct . Nationality adjectives are written with small letter.

Unnecessary personal insults aside (a Croatian predisposition IMHO), I agree with Owl concerning the youth of the two countries ... much though it pains me to do so.
The question is: Will Croatia the same path? France and Holland seem to be doing so.

Violent crime and restless youth are the result of pronounced social differences, especially between castes where the chasm is harder to cross. In Croatia such differences are not as pronounced and there is no chasm... yet.

Pocketvenus, you're one to talk about peoples accents. My wife speaks English with a less annoying accent than yours and she's never even lived in an English speaking country. Why must you always be so personal? BTW your accent is far more annoying than Pockets. Now that is hilarious coming from you. ;D Pixel, septic tank is a big container of s.h.i.t. not sure how pocket relates it to the way people speak. I guess she used the term for shock/insult factor. Picking on peoples accents who speak English as a second language is really pretty petty considering the amount of horrible accents British, Australian, and Americans manage to speak with.

The question is: Will Croatia the same path? France and Holland seem to be doing so. The kind of tensions you see between mostly youth of different origins in those countries, and Australia as well, is a long way off happening here. Once Croatia joins the eu maybe it will start becoming more multicultural. Maybe. Ribaric, do I speak with a noticable Australian accent ?

Oh, you mean "septički tank" i.e. "septička jama"? I was more interested in the metaphor it represents than it's unattractive physical representative. .

Fair dinkum cobber, strewth! Where's me billabong?
Actually yes you do, but it is quite mild. Unlike meself gawd blimey, leevit aaaht! Do me a fayva, on me 'ed son.... yor avin a larf mate.
We've progressed to speaking kajcroglish at home now, using phrases like... Ne mogu believe it! - or - u koliko sati is supper? - or even - buš ti hungry?
I don't think anyone understands either of us now. Oh well!
