Hi all,
Am brand new to this site. Just back from a week based in Baska Voda. Beautiful country but also full of opportunity (I think!). Would be very interested to get anyone's feedback on the likely success of a property development / renovation company combined with an estate agency giving 'UK' style levels of property info plus a property search consultancy. Am lucky enough to have very good local contacts in the Split region which would make setting up a lot easier.
Any ideas / thoughts / suggestions / insight would be very gratefully received.

Be careful ...buying a property has ties and don`t forget seek advice as many properties are not Frehold,as they may have lead you beleive. You have to go more than once ...because impulses can be costly later!

From my experience, buliding appartments/villas with pools would open up your market to the UK - Croatians don't seem to feel the need for a pool like we Brits do!

We don't need pools as the Adriatic is all we need so if you want Spanish style properties then buy else where! simple as that or buy a hotel with one in Croatia.

You would do well, if you manage to overcome all the obstacles in Croatia.

Try talking to Peter Ellis at www.croatiapropertyservices.com He's based in Zagreb. Or you can reach him on 00 385 98 1826 240. Tell him Alan from Opatija referred you to him. Good luck. p.s. in the property section of this site, I'm the one selling the "beautiful family home in Opatija".

Alan, we would appreciate it if you would not promote commercial businesses on these message boards.

Anna, how can we suggest anything if we can't write the URL of the agency that could be helpfull to others? I think you should provide a list of realestate agencies and other firms on your site.

Webmaster, how are we going to help (by investing in real estate!) that lovely country of yours, Croatia, if you don't allow real estate agents' URL's on the messge board?

This is not fair!
Webmasters put a lot of time and money (with no help from anyone!) into this website in order to promote Croatia and they are criticised now.

It doesn't cost a thing to provide a good information. If this site is about promoting Croatia, then it should also promote croatian agencies in order to help foreigners. Webmasters certainly put a lot of time in this site, but a money? For hosting a website?Give me a break!

Vana, I know the webmasters personally as I helped them on a few occasions.
Would you or anyone work so hard over the last six years in promoting Croatia, replying to thousands of questions, putting in countless hours and financing everything from your own pocket? When I was helping them 2 summers ago, sometimes it took us up to 4 hours to reply to everyone, being extremely frustrated at the lack of info available to us, as CRO tourist authorities never provided any info and were ignoring the website (we still manage to reply to everyone getting relevant info by phoning local tourist offices, ferry companies and so on). And there was never any credit given to them from the Croatian side (embassy, tourist office etc). And everyone likes some recognition ...
Many Croats (including myself) think that the webmasters are idiots to carry on and I would not be surprised that they give up soon, as they have other interests in life, which are far less stressful and far more profitable.

I guess some clarification is needed. We are not at all banning people from posting any sort of URLs, be it of travel companies, airlines, bus/ferry/train timetables, property agencies, law firms etc. etc. However it is one thing for someone to write a message recommending a company in Croatia (or elsewhere) that they used or know of, and that would be of use to others. It is entirely another thing for companies or other individuals to simply post their own URLs on these boards (see what Dalmatian Villas are doing) without any sort of explanation! Likewise this whole "tell xxx that yyy referred you" doesn't quite seem to be a straightforward recommendation... Sure, some companies may try to recommend themselves by pretending to post under different names. However, it'll be more or less obvious when this is the case.

My two bits here: in my humble opinion, it is demeaning for Angelo (successful publisher etc) and Anna (Masters degree etc), probably two of the most intelligent and successful people Croatia has in the UK, to do the donkey work (promoting Croatia), as nobody else wants to do it. Give up guys! Promote Britain instead, you will be better off!
