Finally, after much preparation, I will be travelling to the Zadar region next week to do some property viewings. If anyone has specific tips or advice on the area from Zadar through Biograd to Pirovac or the islands near to Zadar, I'd be pleased to receive them. Finally, big thanks ;D to Graham at Bosmere and Steaddie for your help so far - can't wait to visit Croatia for the first time!

"Excellent - are you single..? " Are you? Ha, ignore my little joke - I realised later I don't even know whether Nada is a name for a boy or a girl..? We will be staying in Biograd on Mon, Tues and Weds night and looking at property throughout the area. Do you know of any houses for sale, or were you just being friendly?

Chris Let us all know how you got on when you get back - how was your first trip to Croatia? Wow. Where to begin...? I feel like I visited Croatia for two weeks (I actually spent 4 days there), such was the range of landscapes I saw, number of people I met and, of course, the number of prospective properties I viewed. But, first of all, my initial impressions of Croatia. After reading no fewer than 3 guidebooks and countless postings regarding this intriguing place I felt well prepared but crossing the border from Slovenia I was a bit dismayed by the weather. A swirling blizzard! Later of course I discovered how unseasonal this was and by Weds I was getting a sun tan as I strolled around in a T shirt. ;D My next impression was of how effectively the route was signposted. I guess it's a well trodden path across the top of Istria to the coast road. Rijeka came and went (we didn't stop). Sorry Rijeka, but you might want to work on the architecture to make things look more appealing. And then the coast road. Goodness, what a great road for enthusiastic drivers (and apologies to Tirreno for the excessive tyre wear on that poor little car). The bora was doing its thing and the moonscape-like geology of the northern stretch of the coast road was surprising to us and slightly worrying too, as we didn't know at that stage that how different the geography south of Zadar was. Eventually we reached our lodgings at Biograd (courtesy of Bosmere - thanks Graham!) and revelled in the chance to unwind and enjoy a restaurant meal. MY rusty Deutsch became more polished as time progressed (didn't find many Italian or English speakers) and we made use of the tourist discount offered by the local constabulary on speeding fines. Ooops..! The following days saw us visiting lots of prospects between Zadar and Pirovac, including Ugljian. The upshot of our search was that we discovered that houses are more expensive than we thought and our plans evolved to the point at which we decided to buy a plot of land and build our own (or rather employ a builder to do this). Not an undertaking to be taken lightly, but we believe this will allow us to achieve an end result of the quality we are seeking, with less expenditure than if we buy a pre-built place. We saw a few promising plots and have made an offer, but until things are finalised I won't be posting details of where this is. So.. if it all goes to plan there will be a greater story to keep you all appraised of. The earliest we will look to commence building is Autumn 2005. What a challenge!

Oh well, shame we missed one another, but I think we found some interesting property nonetheless.

Welcome back Chris. Like I wrote to you because of bad weather I did not visit the Croatia next week. In Plitvice was 110cm snow and it was impossible to drive trough. My phone ++385 was not in function for that reason, but you could send me a message, I would get it. My another phone is always in function, maybe you did not dial well or who knows what?
I am glad you enjoyed a little vacation and seen a real Croatia.
