Hi, I am just starting a potential property search, with my first visit taking place to the Dubrovnik/Peljesac area next week. I will be there this time from the 26th Sept-1st Oct.....next time;no plans yet.

Hi,
I have sold my property here and am ready to start hunting down a property in Croatia. From the research I have done I think the PP area is most suitable.
I have vision so will not mind looking during winter...mind you don't have much option now.
Any help appreciated.

Hi there
We are presently in Split and love it here. We have viewed quite a few properties with some refreshingly honest agents eg ' oh yes that property listed with another agent sounds much better than ours!'
Rental market here is poorly controlled with no apparent property management company. So at present we would be looking at purchase purely for future capital growth.
Have looked at few islands etc but they seem overpriced and non existent winter rents.
Any thoughts or feedback on Split/potential or prop mgt out there?

Great program Place in the Sun. Got me thinking about everywhere. But now I'm here, living in Croatia. My advice to anyone would be...don't jump in. You should rent for 100 quid a month. Furnished. A year here will only eat 1200 quid of your money. Plus the upkeep. More than the rent. But then you may find properties for peanut prices. But not on 'some ' of the islands. If you come from the UK you may think...where are the Estate Agents as we know them. There aren't any. Andyone and his mother can do it. Beware of the men in black, who have sun glasses on, night and day. Winter or summer. But, you may also get a good deal from them. Check everything, believe nothing. Double check. There is plenty to be had here. Plenty.

Englishbloke. Watchmi'lips. Rent a property on the mainland for 100 quid a week or LESS, and then look. On the islands. Why live on an island? Extra costs.

I'm trying to watch your lips, but, from your writing I can't make out if you are talking 100 per month or per week...
I guess 100/week on an island (which I have lined up if I want it) or 100/month on the mainland.
Hmmm, oh where to invest...

For two months I rented a flat for £110 a MONTH. Furnished. Luxury. A MONTH, on the mainland. Sibenik, a main tourist area. It's on tv twice a day every day. An important place. historically. Then I looked. And I bought. But I didn't want an island home. For 35 to 70 grand, Euros, you will get something, but, possibly not on Hva. Everything I looked at in February is STILL for sale NOW. So don't be a mug. Grab a bargain. Croatia is okay. The island are the islands. You have to get there and get from there. And everything you want has also to get there and get back. End of story. I cannot tell it clearer than that. All of this will not last forever. I am very relaxed in Croatia. And that is something you cannot put a price on.

"The island are the islands" This is only quit sure. You can't comparise island and mainland. It's big difference. Somebody who did not spend hollidays on some of the islands can't imagine. If somebody thinks like "You have to get there and get from there", for him it is better to stay in UK, and he don't have to move anywhere. The nature and the feeling on the some of islands, can't compare with mainland. "Everything I looked at in February is STILL for sale NOW" 95% what was on the market at February was sold!
