According to today's Croatian Vecernji List, since 2000 6034 aliens have attempted to buy properties in Croatia. 2154 have been granted permission. Prices in Dubrovnik 6000 Euro's a sq m. Phew. Hvar also getting mighty expensive. There's also a mention that Slovenians and Hungars are nipping across the border because since joining the EEC food prices have rocketed in in their countries. Cripes! Food aint cheap here! That's it. Just facts for those interested. I notice I now have four stars, a senior memeber. I hate members, of anything......Shocking.

Alsdoubles,
Is that Vecernji list for year ended 2003, or what is cut off point?
... If cut off point is recent, does that mean about 4000 people have either been refused, or are awaiting approval for 4 years?
Regards
Culchie

It doesn't go in to so much detail. As far as I know, and I assume newspapers check, especially here, in Croatia, that they are reporting correctly. It does appear there have been, are, 4000 people either waiting, refused, or have given up. I can understand that. My wife is Croatian, we bought in a WEEK. But, I would judge, despite what the 'man in the street says, which is NO!!!', that Croatia is going for EEC (EU) membership big time. Running for it! Maybe that will change things. Maybe not. Looking at it logically, there are so many cheap, ridiculously cheap, and give-away properties for sale in Croatia, which are not selling, let's just assume, at the moment, it aint easy to BUY for aliens! And I'm not joking......thousands of properties. Thousands. Anyone paying through the nose.....well, maybe they shouldn't, they should look harder. Daily, I hear of flats, houses, being sold for peanuts....It always is that way...Suchabody sold a flat/house for......Well, why didn't you tell me? They don't. They just tell you, after it happens.

Many foreigners buy or bought property in Croatia thru their own company, and that is the reason for this discrepancy in numbers.

I suspected as much. Business buying. Which, allegedly is easier. I left my company at Manchester Airport. Not quite true, as the website is still running, and I am the business. It's just an avenue I haven't explored yet fully. In theory it's still running, although in semi hibernation. Too busy with other things. Does anyone have any worthwhile information as to how a company name can be used to best advantage in Croatia?
