Hello everybody, I am new to this message board so apologise if this has been covered elsewhere. I am a UK citizen looking to buy a shell of a house in Croatia with friends, fit it out into apartments then sell or rent depending on how I think the market is going. Can anybody offer advice on whether it would be best to do this as a company or an individual? I have had conflicting advice on my potential exposure to Croatian taxes and ability to let out apartments as a foreign individual. Any help gratefully received

This is obviously a hot subject! I would also love a copy. Was out there last week and back again next week. Wishing to purchase in Istria, with the view to move over in a year or so. Anyone know where I can learn Croatian in Nottingham (or London at a push)?

Hi Paul, I learnt with a very good teacher called Linda from Zagreb. She has a small school in Ealing, West London called Croatian Language School, website is www.easycroatian.comShe also runs intensive week long courses in Porec, Istria every spring and autumn - they would probably be ideal for you if you're spending time there anyway! If you do contact her - please say Ellie says hi!

vrlo dobro uciti hrvatski! Ucim ovdje u londonu.
OK, I admit my Croatian is still terrible, but I think it's really important to make the effort if you've bought a house there.
The Croatian Lang School probably does a great course, but I was put off because it's so expensive. My husband and I found an evening class for beginners at the Uni of Westminster - much cheaper - which runs for the full academic year. We're 5 weeks in and so far so good!

Interesting responses. Tax on everything. Huge taxes. And red tape to tie you in knots. Learn the language. Yes...no...do it yourself. Build a house...everthing. Cheaper than these tossers who will have your trousers down. I've just watched a gang slapping a roof on in two weeks. 6 grand, English money. Down the road. One day in the UK, for a better job. Do it. But be prepared to do everything yourself. Seriously. In fact, anyone...Join me. We could make a business here to make the Croats eyes water. Seriously! I am not joking. I have been here ten months. Seen these guys in action. It's rubbish, believe me. We could do them in. All of them.
