Having perused many of Alsodoubles careful, balanced & considered opinions re living & investing in Croatia it occurred to me that Aslodoubles should be nominated for high political office within his chosen country of domicile. What office would siut I wondered? Race relations? Minister in charge community tolerance. How about Minister Imigration policy?
Anybody got any better ideas?

I'm honoured. Whatever the job I will take it. I will work for kunas...(Peanuts), because the post man brought me a sack load of bills a few days ago.....the like of which was of English proportions......... In my house (concrete bunker without machine gun post), with my CROATIAN wife, we have three sayings...right now. 1) It's grim in Grozny, 2) Rough in Russia and....3) Grim in Grimsby...where I am thinking of buying a house, just to get a CURRY!!! Seriously though folks. I live on the coast. I am surrounded by sea views. I have grapes growing, when they grow: if they are good. Which they weren't, after months of careful attention. And by god I have not seen a Croat for days. They are all LOCKED IN for the winter. Or out picking olives, in the valleys...Mad buggers. The skies grey. The rain...monsoon....The thunder, can break windows.....A Place In The Sun...did you ever see that program? Channel 4, get here right now. Film it, show it....It's like nothing on earth...nothing.

Hi Alsodoubles Know what you mean,In august we were camping on are land.Lovely sunny morning good go for a walk, Ops sky looks dark head back to tent arive just in time. Hale the size of golf balls, and a sagging tent roof!! I did promise to hibernate (and die probably), but I haven't yet. But, a couple of days ago the News on HR1,2 etc warned of the BURRA...Bit like the Scottish people......"Aye begorahh. Och aye the noo, it's a brau brecht nicht....When the winds comes Jimmie, cross the glenns...Aye...Pass the whisky....and words to that effect...Go out on the Torr Angus, and play the pipes...And weight down thee kilt, och aye. Exhibitionist!!!" But, last Saturday night it started...the booming, blasting, rattling, soaking wind and rain...Swirling from all directions......Scattering garden frniture and lumbrellas...(crazy Croatian word). And it went on and on and.....By gobu it's brassicas here. Rooves blown off, ships wrecked....coastal areas washed away. Trees down...Olives down......36 hours constant blasting....Phew. Fortunately, now it's settled down to...just freezing wind chill. Phew. At times like this we English people just stock up on alcohol, and wait. And watch The Weakest Link on BBC Prime. We can take it. Still not seen a Croat for days. Other than a couple frozen to lamposts!

Als, are you OK? There've been heavy floods in Sibenik, I hope you and your familiy are all OK. And your house. 161 litres per 1 m2. I am repeating myself. Getting old twice as fast here in Croatia. I live on a peninsula. I expected it to be...not a peninsular next day. But, it still is. When the soil in the garden disappeared under the flood I worried a little, as my concrete bunker is 18 inches down a few steps, LOWER than the flood. But, we were okay. It rained of Noarh proportions. If you know what I mean. And what's worse.....I'd ran out of pivo and couldn't venture out.......

It was rough...But by god we weathered it. In fact, half way through it, I went out for a walk. I met no-one...Not even a stray cat. You know what they say..."Mad dogs and Englishmen" When I came in, despite my Burbor...whatever it's called...I was effin soaking. Legends are made of such things. It's the Captain Mainwaring syndrome. Breeding! A valuable import.
