Does anyone have a contact on Vis island who either is, or knows someone who is, a professional tiler? We have newly acquired two bathrooms and a kitchen decorated in the most dreadful fit of bad taste brown patterned tiles you can imagine. Hoping to avoid spending the entirety of my next trip to Vis (end of Feb) grouting.

Nowhere near Viz, but check out these prices.....250 quid for a good roof job. 650 quid for a COMPLETE roof. Very very cheap that. 5 sets scuras (shutters) hand made wood....a grand (UK) fitted. A fantastic fitted kitchen....pola-pola cooker. Under sink water heater. 1600 quid........Fitted in tight spot. And, the local guys from the Voda works, who spent 3 days finding and clearing my sewers (which were blocked 5 TIMES in six months, and they had NO IDEO where they were, or who built them. The Turks or the Romans. They are paid, waite for it....4 grand UK a year. Yep, 4 grand. (UK money this). 80 quid a week. So if you find a tiler......make sure you get a good deal, and a good job. It aint easy. Finding your way round all of these snags is a real education. We are aliens in an alien land. It's possible to get a good deal. For certain.

He's a good contact. Knows what he's doing.

Emma, I've just had a chat with my wife and she said she would be happy to help you. She's a fully qualified tiler and that's what she does, bathrooms and kitchens. We're moving to Vis in about three weeks, we'll be there on the 30th of March untill Nov. We got caught in the Tsunami and are supposed to be in Sri Lanka, but its a long story. We will be setting up our own house on our land there for our travel company www.somewheredifferent.com and will be looking to make some money whilst we are there so... if you can waite three weeks Penny can help you. ;D. You can contact Penny on penny@somewheredifferent.com
