what is anyone's experience of waiting for "permission to own" from Zagreb. We were told that it was OK to renovate an old property between completion and receiving the permission, now we are being told that we might have to undo all that we have done in the 18 months since we bought the house. What is the longest time anyone has had to wait for the permission? Is 18months/2years par for the course?

Susie when I first bought I moved right in and set up shop, the first time I thought the papers came through there'd been a mistake in the application and I had to start again, but it was fine second time, in total for full "official" approval it lasted a year!

Thanks Irac - I guess after a year of first time application we've just got to be patient and hope it goes through!

Don't worry Susie, things in Croatia take time, but do chase them up, I made a mistake of letting it rest for a few months and found out that if I'd made a couple of calls I'd have gotten it sorted sooner! But so long as you're in the place and happy, with dry feet ;D then you're winning!

It took more than a year, but it came at last :-)

Seems you're not getting much help here. I can recommend a lawyer in Zagreb by the name of Roman Bihar. Not cheap but cheaper than a cheap lawyer if you get my drift.

Don't worry Susie, things in Croatia take time, but do chase them up, I have a similar situation with the location permit application I submitted last July. Having heard nothing for the last 8 months, an architect I was recently in correspondance with cheerfully informed me that in order to get such matters progressed it is necessary to "flatter the responsible persons, even buy them flowers and perfumes"! Not quite the system we are used to in the UK!
