Hello, New to the forum. I am looking to purchase property and want to set up as a company. Feel this is the best route for my plans. I have looked at all the pros and cons. But does anyone have a company that they used to set up their company and were happy with the results. Also, are there any business that I should avoid as in solicitors, real estate agents, builders, etc. Will be split/dubrovnik area. thanks

Hi, I run a real estate agency which, as part of a wider range of services, offer company set-up. We have done this for a large number of clients and are happy to provide references. If you would like further information, please email me at sales@aplaceindalmatia.com or look at our website www.aplaceindalmatia.com. There is a downloadable brochure which gives more information on this service. regards Charles

Setting up a company in Croatia can be done via any lawyer, but you can also contact directly the 'one stop shop' of the ministry of Economy. In any case, a set up should not cost you more than 1000 to 1500 euro. All that you pay more goes straight as profit into the pockets of the person which is offering the service and your company won't 'run' any better. You can read more on the following link: www.hgk.hr/en/pdf/TD_engleski_09_2004_WEB.pdfor www.hamag.hr/about_us.aspxIf you want to found a d.o.o. you will be required to make a 20,000 Kuna deposit, but you will get this back, so cannot be seen as cost.

Thanks you both for the information. The links look a little daunting, but very helpful. Most businesses seem to want 2000 - 2500 Euro for setting up the business, from what I can see online. If you know of any for less please keep me informed. We don't have alot of money, as we are unable to get loans. Our credit is great, but we are U.S. citizens that have recently moved to the U.K. so no one will loan us money. But I have my dreams which is to own property in Croatia and eventually move there. thanks

If you look on the Hitro site you can find contact info for them and it is a government service. They want to make it easier for people to set up a company and if you simply follow the steps it is not going to be too difficult. It looks more difficult than it really is. You can of course always call them and ask advise.
I can also point you to a reasonable lawyer who recently registered our logo here in Croatia. Where most law firms were charging 1000 to 2000 euro she only charged 2638 Kuna (that is incl VAT/PDV), so quite a difference.
In your case I would first contact HITRA, figure out what you can do yourself and then you can make a well based decision. You can always decide later to hand a ton of money to someone else to do it for you.

I agree with Mambo ... HITRO ("quick and easy" ) is service established by government (this makes it "safe" and cheap at same time), to help people with needs such as yours.
Before contacting lawyers, you should contact them, and I believe they will help you. Language should not produce problem.

Mambo and rog are right thats the best route or you can pm me and Ill give you a great lawyer who does the set up fast and cheap and speaks english and uses email. We use three lawyers nad each have their strengths, but this guy hasnt et anyone down yet.You can contact some of his Uk and Irish clients to get references. You will need a bookeeper to help you out afterwards as well and we use a great woman in Split that speaks English is up to date on everything and uses email.
