Hi, I am a veteran of the Rijeka and Kvarner property market. Is anyone else involved in or interested in this market?

No one seems to be interested so I will just keep yappin:) I have been coming to Cro since 98. Originally I was going to buy in Varos in Split. It was a no brainer from an investment point of view but I kept meeting Ustashe and assorted hillbilly crazies whenever I walked into town. I also noticed the extreme corruption and incompetance of the local administration. The firing of an AK 47 at a restaurant I was dining at completely made my mind up. I had a group of gay friends ther who kept talking about how liberal and cosmopolitan Rijeka was. In Split their lives were literaly in danger if they showed their sexual preference in public. Last year I was in Split and heard the story of the English tourists who were almost beaten to death on Hvar by some Split guys. The local police did nothing until the English newspapers took up the story. It turned out the lead thug was the head of the ER section of Split hospital. I thought of Zadar but that has even more crazies, their madness and predjudice fed by the terrible seige during the war. So I came to Rijeka. I found it the least corrupt and most tolerent place in Croatia. People have a real work ethic here and an understanding of the outside world from Rijekas maritime links plus the huge amount of people that commute to work in Italy. I predicted that Rijeka would grow quickly and was mainly held back by the evil and vindictive HDZ in Zagreb. Rijeka has always voted sot and there were no pogroms here. Its nickname is Red Rijeka. My first attempt to purchase was thwarted by a dishonest seller from Istria but eventualy I bought a lovely flat in Rijekas finest suburb Pecine. After typical trials and tribulations my flat has almost doubled in price in 3 years. I am renting it for over €400 per month and will sell it this summer. The rental market here is as tight as a fishes bum and prices have gone up across the board. None of this demand is from foreigners and all of it comes from the increasingly prosperous locals and clever Zagreb investors. I love this city and its people but ther is nothing to do at night if you hate folk music and Sundays are really depressing. One can walk anywhere safely at night unlike Zagreb where I was chased by s.eads last time I was there. Due to the Credit squeeze prices have peaked here, so I am putting together some deals in another area of Kvarner which I will post info about when things go through.
