can't believe it! no one is discussing this TV prog today after last night's condemnation of the 'corrupt' property scene in Croatia.
Unclear titles; taking years to sort out, dishonest solicitors in the pay of the dodgy estate agents, selling land you don't own, out of court settlements, surely nothing like this happens, does it? its not like that on Amanda Lamb's programme, will have to be careful what I watch on TV.

I didn't see it, but I seen the couple who moved to Slovakia, the guy was hilarious, he was ruder than Basel Fawlty.

bloke ( Brit) goes to an estate agent in Dubrovnik ( all Dubrovnik agents on here can now pretend to look the other way, those from further north can be heard to mutter "well it's bandit country down there your know") he is persuaded to buy a plot in what looked like Cavtat, Estate agent suggests the use of a solicitor, his solicitor, how convenient... Bloke buys land and puts in for planning for apartment block two years later bloke is told no chance of him getting planning permission as he doesn't own the land! bloke gutted... turns out he bought from clever old Croatian fox a plot of land that he had all ready Left to his kids, kids don't want to sell...several years pass... Super agent from Channel 4 TV arrives on scene and within the hour a deal is done, kids sell land to another mug punter and half profits go to the original Bloke, no mention of the original estate agent or solicitor?? Bloke says his Croatian dream is now back on track and no doubt one of you will happily part him once more from his money before too long...
bloody hilarious!

unclean titles: yes, it happens a lot. why do you think agencies make such a big thing of it when something is clean?

taking years to sort out: yes. Courts are overloaded. Look at various comments on this site regarding corruption.

dishonest solicitors in the pay of the dodgy estate agents: yes, also happens. Plus dishonest lawyers in the pay of dodgy developers. Best to use a good independent lawyer... but here is the rub, after all this time I have only met one good one and a small handful who I could say are alright. Others are lazy at best and I've seen sales fail because the seller loses faith in the buyer because the buyer's lawyer is holding things up unnecessarily (because he likes his afternoon naps, morning visits to the courts and can't be bothered doing any work in the evening).

selling land you don't own: sellers try it on all the time. Sometimes they have a probablilty that they will own it one day (see taking years to sort out)
