Anyone got Sky TV in Croatia? Anyone have problems picking up the main channels, even though some are OK? Anyone experienced this?

Janet, I do not know if this is any help or not, but my father was told by an acquaintance that, legally, you cannot watch Sky TV in Croatia. One way of getting round this is to get the subscription card in England, register it to an English address, then take the card to Croatia and use it there.

Yes, let's just say that I've heard that too (but that it's still illegal)! The thing I'm trying to find out is if, hypothetically of course, someone did just that have they had problems receiving some of the main channels because of signal strength?

I have been informed by a colleague in Dubrovnik that to get Sky they needed to have a large dish and for it to be set up correctly, making sure it pointed to the correct satellite. Apparently most of the central european stations broadcast on a different satellite. That is about as much as I can find out at the moment and considering I can't even use a video recorder that is not bad for me

I looked into this because my husbands could not live without Sky TV. I found this website useful www.skygermany.net/ as it provides answers to all of your questions.

Yes thanks all. It seems like you need a bigger dish to receive the main BBC and ITV channels but a small dish is enough to receive all the rest. Costs 4000 HRK to install a big dish - argh!

For more info about satellite programs and requirements in Croatia have a look at www.satelitska-tv.com/There is an English and Croatian version of that web site.

How large is 'large'? The web sites give varying information about the size of the dish required (1.8m to 3.0m) to receive from Astra 2D. I am interested to know if anybody in the vicinity of Hvar has managed to receive stations from this satellite, and if so the size of dish being used.

Yes, I have had this problem. The box needs to be reset. Turn off the TV and box at the mains for over 5 minutes. Turn on TV but leave the box on stanby for 5 mins (or more), then turn on the box. Hey presto! I hope this makes sense. Anyone got Sky TV in Croatia? Anyone have problems picking up the main channels, even though some are OK? Anyone experienced this?
