Sadly I can only repeat what I've already stated about Croatian food. It's bland. Boring and bland, but okay. I eat it. I had cuttlefish rissotto yesterday, gulp! And I don't eat bangers and mash or fish and chips, often (in the UK), and the curries (I crave), have to be of the highest quality....Made by REAL Maharajah's chefs, playing the sitar ragas between marinates.....! I eat to feed and stay alive. Some of it's okay. Here and in the UK, I suppose. (Jeez, I could eat a bangers and mash now! Just for a change from juha!....And beans on toast..Drool!) Now a good Hindu Indian curry. Well, we are talking a religion here, are we not? But the drink (booze in Croatia is a totally different ball game. (Please forgive the Americanism). Baseball (rounders, is a girls game as I remember it from my school days). I mean., grown men dressed in babygrows, give me a break eh....! Vino. White, red, black. It's grown my everyone and his mother's mother's son's great grandson. In vineyards long established, that stretch across valleys you could die for. To live by. Overlooking even. And MANY do. Better than sea views. And in many months I have only been given one bad bottle as a gift, from an 'aquaintance', tasting of plastic. (I still drank it). Well, chucked 50% of it out, to be honest. (I do have (boast), red and black grapes growing on my own vines.) They also make, these old families, brandies of all varieties. Grass, stalk, grape, fruit marinated, walnut etc. What the EEC will do with all this 'tradition of brewing' I really do not know. I hear tell of tales about 'wild asparagus' picking, which is to be banned. Yeh, right. Maybe they'll tax it eh, IF they can police it. (They can't even make the traffic lights work!) It grows everywhere!. EVERYONE picks it!! (And watch out for the brown snakes). Then to beer (pivo). We have many varieties here. Ojusko, Karlovac, Tomislav, Zlatarog. So cheap it would make your eyes water. Like a QUID a litre in plastic bottles. OR, if you use your brains, you buy it in glass bottles at 3.5 (ish) kunas a half litre...then take the bottles back and get...2.50 kunas refund per bottle....THAT MAKES THE BEEER........what, 10p a litre (ish). Whooah!! Dip your bread beer lovers and drinkers. We are talking legless for pennies ladies and gentlemen. (I, of course am a CONTROLLED...intelligent drinker. So my wife tells me, as I carry her to bed!) And if you smoke and roll your own (mandatory) f*gs, (you have to if you enjoy a drink), well it's 2 quid for 40 grammes, and Tony Blair cannot get at the other 6 quid tax. (Ready made have just gone up.....to £1.10 for 20). Cheaper than at the airport. Forget the airport. Croatia! Big skies, beautiful stars. Bring a telescope, if you are an astronomer. Vast horizons. BIG! skies. Fair eatable food (GROAN). A whole lot of sea. Bit hot...like oppressively hot right now....But, well, what do you want? To be happy? Come back in the next lifetime to be happy. Happines is fleeting...Yes? (WARNING. This entry is for entertainment purposes only, and will not damage anyone's health. But it might!)

Yes.....sharkie? What kind of a title is that? I am, indeed, something else. You are so sharp! (Sharkie...sharp?) And Croatian food is...watch my lips....OKAY, eatable, but, in MY opinion, just a bit limited and bland. But the booze and the cost of booze.........Phew. Fabulous! Sharkie your response was a joy to behold. Thank you.

All depends on the taste of an individual. 'Sto ljudi - sto chudi' people in Croatia say..somebody gets a hot curry, others like it fresh, without any preservatives and engineering touch! Someone gets sick of consumerism and life under a satellite observation of a Big Brother! Modern slaves we are - the thing is only - HOW MUCH YOU NOTICE IT - maybe is better to think about your engineered curry plate.. containing scorpion, and Beatles genes ..Enjoy your meal!

You have been eating at wrong places. If you have had a talk with locals, I am sure you would have had much better experience. I find Croatian food so diversitle, just moving from one to another region you have completely different recepies, ingrediances, flavours. My favourite has to be Mediterranean food, but the Top spot take small taverns in Istria, in superb surroundings you can find mind blowing, homemade pasta (fuzi), then potato noodles (njoki), not to mention wild herb soups, all sorts of strudli (homemade pie with, blueberries, cherries, apples, cheese). i am really sorry you have been given such bland food. But on the other hand, if you are a curry type it is not a surprise you missed spices. I can't stand Indian food, as it is too greasy, too spicy and it always gives me digestion problems....

Niksy. I have been eating in the old valleys. Where families have been cooking the same stuff for generations. Where people own vineyards that strecth for miles, and have unfinished houses that are massive and made of concrete and tile bricks. Old families. Eating old, original Croatia fair. It's eatable. It's okay even. Genuine food. But bland. My opinion. I would kill for Heinz soups and beans, and kill for a beautiful excellent curry. That's all. I live here. I visit someone, I get to eat...have to eat...it is the tradion. You eat. And it's okay. Now if you read the history books and listen to the music you will learn and get the impression that this race has migrated from India, Afhhanistan etc...centuries ago. Where did the spices go, I wonder. But. Big BUT, please hold this pint in mind. When I sleep at night I sleep soundly. Often with the doors and windows open. Now that, by UK terms, is quite amazing. But, and this is a down BUT, considering the high profile nature of many of the holiday destinations here, and the amount of massive taxes this system extracts from the people who live here. The system should be totally ashamed of the effort they put into the place. It is, virtually...zero. But, this is not a perfect world, and things never ever stay the same.

Perhaps you should have gone to India for your holidays? Erhumm...Watch my lips, thickos. I am not on holiday. I LIVE here. Own a property and and car and LIVE here. Are you receiving me? This system extracts 22% VAT from the inhabitants and puts, from what I can judge, very little into promoting tourism. Like even the ancient fountains don't work in Sibenik. Beautiful old Sibenik. Give a spanner and a few quid and I'll fix 'em myself. Do you know what I mean? Probably not. Croatia is okay. Half-wits never will be. I love these responses. In the UK and in Croatia, they're priceless!

I'll second that. There's plenty more places out there which are far less beautiful, far less inhabitable and far, far more expensive that may even lend some credibility to your whinging.

"no offense but if you dont like the food, you dont like the "half wits" and you dont like the taxation and you dont like the way they run the country, GET OUT!" why the rudeness? In all fairness, this guy is living in Croatia, and contributing to the economy, so he is entitled to his OWN opinion. I see many anti-UK posts on this forum from you guys - example: "I m croatian and happened to live in uk,please dont get me start on taxes....how about when goverment takes 40% of you earnings to support lazy pond life that gat pregnant at 16 so they can have 4-5 kids by 4-5 different fatherts and do nothin but eat, smoke and have more kids that grow up just to be like their mums" Personally, I don't know any "lazy pond life" with "4-5 kids by 4-5 different fathers" - I suspect that this is a generalisation focusing on the more dubious aspects of the UK, but again the poster is entitled to his opinion. I don't have to agree with it. Now, I would say that this comment is the same kind of thing, but coming from the other direction - so how would you feel if you guys got the same response?? And before you all jump down my throat - I LOVE Croatia, LOVE the food and LOVE the people (and I am Scottish so we tend to be less in love with the English than you are! ) but the point I am making is that everyone is entitled to their opinion, however much it might annoy someone else. In these instances, surely it's better to put forward a reasoned and calm reply(as some previous postings already have) than an insult - and that goes for both sides of the coin!

Read my post again... there is not a single word that attacks him in anyway... its not rude, and its NOT anti-British. it simply states his overall view of Croatia, and im giving him an advice. (im telling him to get out of a Country where he doesnt like the food, taxation and the people who runs the country). p.s. im an American and im not pro-Croat nor pro-Brit. i just saw his whining post and was just giving him an advice.... btw, my advice WAS my opinion.
