Hello, I've read contradictory info in this forum on whether or not tax is payable on household stuff when you relocate to Croatia. One member wrote it was 30% of the actual value. Now, I read (I think) in Martin Wesby's book that tax was payable only on new items. Please can someone confirm what is actually the case (coming from the UK)? Cheers

Hi, we traveled to croatia at the end of may with a big trailer , loaded with furniture, bedding garden tools ect( basically everything but the kitchen sink), 90% was second hand ,10% new. we made a manifest of everything and put what was new and 2nd hand and what the value was, put that the items are for your own use and will not be sold. we were unsure what to expect at the border, bur were pleasantly surprised and were only charged 150 euros. e/mail me direct if i can help any more. d tams

yeslehc,
Do you know what they taxed you on - was it just the new things? What rates did they charge? Did they require any paperwork to prove that you were resident or owned a house? Were the values your own estimates?
Thanks,
Steve

Englishboke. I emigrated here in February...(Read my posts..get to know who I am, if you're interested, and what I have to say). I brought in...megamoney's worth of prestige personal items, in hand luggage. They waved me through. If it's yours it's yours. Personal stuff. I doubt they'll hit you. Bring in 'the Elgin marbles' maybe they'll slap you for a few quid. IF, they know what the Elgin marbles are. I don't think this part of the system is fired up, yet. YET!

Hi We're hoping to come and live in Croatia / Istria later this year. I have a question for anyone that can help. We will be driving to Croatia and we need to be thinking about a vehicle (not older than 5 years) has anyone brought a car into the country from the UK - was this easy to sort out or did you purchase a vehicle in Croatia ? I am confussed as to how you would register a vehicle in Croatia if we're staying in rented accomodation. Has anyone got any advise on the easiest way of doing this ? Thanks to anyone who can help me.
