Hey everyone. I've got my things together and I'll be moving to Zagreb for a year of language study in very early October.
I'll be staying with my Grandma till I find a place to stay.
I really want to live near the base of the mountain behind Zagreb (Sljeme) or at least on that side of town.
What is the best way to find permanent accomodation in this area for a year? Here in Australia the broadsheet newspapers publish rental accomodation every wednesday and saturday. Is there a similar thing in Zagreb?
I wanna live with native croatian speakers (if I live with anyone at all).
Please flood this thread with useful information!
Take it easy. Oli.

Living in the base of mountain (Sljeme) is called "podsljemenska zona", or "under Sljeme zone" and it is considered 1 of the more prestigeous parts of town. It became popular in the 90' when all the privatisation criminals, politicians (criminals) and other low life started building their properties there. It's not very pretty, as the landscape is pretty ruined, none of the architecture, urbanisation plans were respected as people who moved there could change urban plans with their money or political infulence. Good thing about it, in your case, is that there are a lot of new properties, small buildings, so called "urban villas", some of which are of pretty high quality but don't expect to get a bargain there. The ads paper everyone mentioned is good, but only in coratian. If you need english ads, best way is to check out some top real estate agents in Zagreb, who have websites in english. Anyway, most of the good apartments are not listed in ads, but only on web pages of agencies. I don't want to give you adresses in fear someone will accuse me of advertising, but you can google it, I'm sure you'll get some good results.
