Euro? Is it comming? lattest opinion in Croatia is turning against it. Although all those i speak to, who are in favour for it in Croatia, do so as they feel it will create more jobs, money and prospects.
I ask my Croatian wife, why fight a war of Independence, to be rulled by a central European body?
Although one big benefit, you'll be on the opposing side of America. I work in a French bank, with only Europeans who are fighting to keep their identities. I saw a guy looking at properties which are still priced in French francs.
One good thing of the prospect of Euro entry, is the fact Croatia may make social reforms quicker. But as a European banker i can confirm that Croatia is doing a great job atleast controlling Fiscal Policy, hence the stability of the Kuna.
Forget the Euro, and just think CROATIA, clear seas, organic food, unspoilt national parks and a new identity still void of outside influences.

Long may it stay that way!! Some of the reasons why I don't think Croatia would be a horrible place to live and why I like to spend as much time as possible there. A nice note on which to say laku noc.

as a croat , I would like to ask u people few things: 1. please , dont criticase croatian politics unless u know what you are talking about 2. croatia never in history attacked any country or truyed to colonize anybody or sucked somebody elses treasures 3. as u would wxpect me to adjust if I coem to england , that is what I can advice to you in croatia - adjust , instead to expect that whole country go your way 4. calling a whole nation fasist and nationalistic is only a sign of somebody very narrow minded and primitive we are proud people and are truying to raise this place out of war scars and out of communism 5. u had high hopes? whose problem is that? somebody else is responsible for your stupidity? set your hopes to appropriate level, or move where sun shines better for you 6. we really dont need somebody to come here and tells us the obvious , thank you very much if anybody , we are very well aware of problems , as we live here every day of our lives so , leave that patronizing tone for somebody who wants to hear it and who can be impressed with country that has to call itself "great"

curica, I think you misuderstood 'kinez' - he meant to say he didn't believe ENGLISH LIVING IN AMERICA to be English. It's like an expression. (or did I misunderstand you?) Englishman in Zg - I guessed that's just what you need - to moan a bit. Saves money you'd be spending on a shrink (whoops, als, sorry for the smiley). And I said I agree with many things you complain about, but the problem is you see NOTHING else (ok, you seem to be satisfied with the cricket team. I didn't even know there was one). As for the nationalism - the people I know obv don't fit your statistics - I honestly know very few who represent the majority you're talking about. Or is just that I'm not interested and I never get to talk with people about that? So that would mean all that stayed are. No, no, I can't agree with that. And this: I'm glad some people believe food here is mostly organically grown. I'm sorry to disappoint you - it's so faaar from the truth. Food is a moch more important issue to me than politics - and I can tell you - all chemicals are used. Moreover, very often without enough education. So, unless you buy certified organic food, don't hope that you're eating any healthier than in England or anywhere else. Unfortunatelly.

Think we were talking about stuff someone has pulled from the garden that morning and handed over in the neighbourly way that they do! (ok, maybe not in Zagreb) I'm convinced the fruit & veg I buy in Labin market is organic (at least not loaded with chemicals). It's too ugly to be otherwise!!

I'm convinced that 90% of people who sell food on open markets (regardless of how it looks) use at least some chemicals. There may be some exceptions, but that's all they are - exceptions.
Unless I personally know people who sell it (and make a choice to believe them) or it's certified - I don't trust them. I always ask, though I know the same 90% claim it's grown without chemicals. Sometimes, just sometimes, to make it easier for me, I decide to believe them, fooling myself they're not lying.
I know people who grow food just for themselves - and even most of them use at least some chemicals (pesticides, fertilisers, something...).

Calling ENGLISHMAN IN ZAGREB....you see where this thread is going? These loons are now talking about tomatoes with worms in them! Croatia. Amercian Croatia. Western Croatia. Designer clothes, sunglasses, thinking. Even English speaking Croats speak with an American accent. And check out HR1,2 RTL and Nova tv. How much American? It's the linkl you see. EU plus TONY BLAIR = America. Protection. Nato...maybe. You think it aint you don't need them, Croatian nationalist? You are wrong. Who else will protect your fragile independence?? 4 mllion people? Get real. Incidentally...I got three names today. Niether one my relation in Iraq. Shallow satisfaction. My relation in Iraq, in his 1 minute telephone call tells us...he is living in his tank 24/7. And I, am in my Croatian concrete bunker.....sipping pearl vino. Ahh. We will all look back on these moments.......One day.

Noddy, I am glad you have seen sense.
The Croatian health care system is an area heavily influenced by conflicts of interests, and pure corruption.
The minister with the responsibility for major medical supplies, owns a company that makes medical equipment, nice huh?
This minister decreed hat Croatia does not need first class medical equipment and indeed it needs cheaper equipment of a lesser quality.
Guess what standard of equipment this minister company makes??
The same minister decides that the health service could not spend any money on expensive scanning instruments until next year, strangely enough his company will be launching a scanner next year.
It is beyond a joke.
I spoke to a very nice gentleman last week, a guy who battled hard and heartily for hus country in the conflict.
The gentleman said that he saw many atrocities on all sides, I guess that comes naturally with war, be what really struck me is when he said, I risked my life and I don’t know who for.
This government and previous Croatian governments don’t care about the people, they care about lining their own pockets.
Sad but true.
As for those of you who wish to turn this thread into a discussion about Croatian food, would you walk into a swimming pool in ski’s?? No you wouldn’t
