How would it be like if we put all these English gentlemen confined in one place for a month...making them argue and debate ;D over this issue "Croatia is a Horrible Place to Live. All contestants will be given sharp objects like knives, machete, bows and arrows to accentuate his point. ;D And whoever survives after a month will be the winner. Would it be more entertaining than BIG BROTHER? ;D ;D curica

In one place for a month?? we are in one place, Croatia seems small enough to be a life size set of Big brother; as for arms there are easiyl foudn here.
The problem is the British gentelman rarely resorts to mindless violence; its just not cricket!
I was ripped off to teh tune of 5000kn by Zagrebecka banka today; the stupid cashier bit*h took advanatge of the fact i wasn't there!!!!! b****, she doesn't even understand the words nice to meet you; she is very stupid.

George III gave America away. Mr. Pump.ead has just been re-elected....) Probably have a game of CRICKET. A civilised passtime. And of course, pass over the running of Croatia to us. Totally. I would say that would sort the place out, in weeks. What do you all say? In brackets. Although I don't really care........

First of all, English man in Croatia, no body cares about what you are doing every day. This is not your life journal on the web so shut it.

Dari; I feel I ahve already explained to you the simple rules.
Communism is over; you do not "have" to say anything, indded you could lock yourself in a dark room and be very quiet for 10 or 20 years and the world would not suffer from the lack of your words of wisdom.
Als; speaking of Cricket; If I decided to accept Croatia citizenship; I will represent Croatia's cricket team; they are fairly good and beat all the central European teams.
I was waiting for England to call, but the chairman of the selectors never called.
Btw I have found a company that delivers foreign food to Croatia. 100 tins of heinz beans on the way.

Englishman in Zagreb Do you wake up every day in such a foul mood? Have you had your blood pressure checked of late? If not you should before you finally explode. Have you learnt nothing in life? Surely you must have learnt that if you are not enjoying something you STOP doing it. If Zagreb is that bad (for you) then leave rather than force your vitriolic bad temper on us. It's quite a paradox really; you happily make money from Croatians by supplying them with imports but then treat them as idiots. Perhaps they are - in having anything to do with you! Go back to the UK, or is making money there too difficult. Interesting that you only tell us the bits that obviously cause you so much angst. Has ANYTHING nice ever happened to you ANYWHERE let alone Croatia. Can you actually go back or are you likely to attract the attention of the UK men in blue?

The UK men in blue??? I have noticed that this website if full of people who should be busy writing 3rd rate novels.
You make a point, by making up lies? How on earth could I get a Visa for Croatia, if I was a convicted criminal?
Can I make money in the UK? Erm yes; but I can also trust my staff in the UK to manage things without me; here I cannot, trust me I tried. In England I have 18 staff and 16 of them have worked there for 4 years or more.
In Zagreb I have employed 16 people in 1 year and fired all but two of them.
I have tried in vain to attract quality staff from the UK, but after each person who took a months trail here hated Zagreb, and went back to working for me in England.
Has anything good happened to me in Zagreb? Hmm only at the airport when I take my regular trips home.

I can´t say I´m offended by this, being a Croati that is and reading what youw rote. Everything is 100% correct what you´ve said and that´s why I´ve moved to Sweden. Not all people are nacionalistic idiots there, but mostly, yes, all others HAD to elave the country because of the s present there. SO yeah, hear hear, from a Croatian girl. All of those who intend to move to Croatia; only does so if the following apply: You are rich- You are old- If none of these conditions apply do not consider moving here; this country is in one hell of a mess and I for one cannot wait to leave. The economy is in a mess (understandably) the taxes are too high, everybody is trying to steal from everybody in business dealings. Corruption is ever present in 90% of companies. Everying is overpriced and of bad quality. The people are incredibly rude and thoughtless. They drive like it is their last day on Earth. They are a nation of nationalistic idiots; do not move here I made the mistake and cannot wait to go back home. The people are unfriendly and few people really speak English; okay okay learn Croatian I hear. Croatians have the idea that Croatia is heaven on Earth it is much closer to hell. I will be back with more thoughts after I have been to pay €500 for stamps..d**n communists.

To the founder of this, probably most popular, thread on this forum:You mentioned Spain as one of the countries you lived in and had good time and no major problems, well i SOOOOOOO DISAGREE.I actually lived in Madrid and everything(well almost everything) you stated to be wrong and awful in Croatia is what i felt about Spain.Spaniards, the weather, the food, taxi drivers, people on the street, sales people, airport Barajas-pure hell!Every good thing there was accompanied by AT LEAST 5 bad. So see my dear Englishman, what Croatia is to you Spain is to me or let's say Mozambique is to an X. Just to finish my story-I left Spain, as I recommend you live Croatia.Despite all your investments.Move where you will be happy-not only for the sake of all on here that disagree with you(and probably all the Croatians, regardless of their patriotic zest) but even more importantly for the sake of your inner peace.Do yourself a favor, really! You will surely be happier in the States,Spain or your homeland.I am telling you this from my own experience.Honestly.

I am bemused and confused!
I am married to a croatian and have explored the whole of Croatia. Sure some places i had good experiences, some bad, but heh thats life. Everyone has their own opinion, and from experience, mine changed frequently as we visited different parts of the country, and thats true for any country. As a foreigner you will misunderstand alot of thinks, but heh it's not your country so you should be trying a bit harder.
Sure i get driven mad by red tape and beaurocracy, but remember what ENGLANDS like? I was madder at officialdome in England than Croatia, as in England the system can be very inhumane. EG when my wife applied for visas to stay in Britain and eventually as my wife, we were subjected to the English third world system. We as everyone else, elderly and children, waited at 6.30 am in the rain for the home office doors to open at 8.30. While the papers accused the British government of the system being in disarray, the government just lyed. The computers couldn't cope, files were held in an underground car park, being eaten by rats and offices massively under staffed.
So as an Englishman, i know England can be a lot worse.
Croatia is a young country, still finding its feat, while trying to please outsiders, as well as helping its own.
If you don't like it, go you will not be misssed, sorry.

There are far too many reasonable people being attracted to this post for my liking, Were all the raving lunatics? I need somebody to fight , ha ha. Okay regarding the people who critisced the UK, I agree with you, lots of things about the UK are not perfect, the difference is people there know that and try to improve it. The simple fact that so many Brits have already talked about the problems in the Uk, highlights this. As far as I can recall Mendy is the first Croatian to be honest enough to admit the problems here. I can cope with the holes in the roads, the red tape, the stealing the cheating, the rudeness (which is probably more of a capital city thing that a Croatia thing) I cannot and will not tolerate the fascist nationalists, the problem is that at least 30% are hard line nationalists and another 50% are just your standard nationalists, that leaves 20% of mostly young, open minded and educated youngsters in Croatia, who I feel nothing but sympathy for. If this country wasn’t so ageist these new breed of scholars could grab this country by the horns and start to improve the country, but in Croatia you must be at least 40 before anybody listens to your opinion. It is sad that many young educated Doctors are emigrating to the UK, German etc, the brain drain effect could leave Croatia’s future as unstable as its present. Meddy, I would be very interested to know why you felt you had to leave Croatia, if it is to personal that is okay; but clearly being in a open country like Sweden has opened your mind. Eva; how can you dislike Spanish weather??? Hot summers, warm winters, Winter in Zagreb brrzzz I am storing nuts so I can hibernate and not leave my apartment until May, as for the rest; nah you are being far too reasonable. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Madrid had some scary winds at the end of April where I felt like freezing.Yes, Zagreb weather sucks most of the time but Madrid,my God....Very unpleasant. It is either hot or cold there, the middle is lost in between.Suggestion to anybody considering going to Madrid to live-DON'T!South of Spain is better but do avoid the capital!

No smileys will be used here. Guranteed. Assuming this website 'Visit Croatia' is a 'public service.' Let me say, I am pretty chilled here. About to be more chilled as the burra is on its way. On the coast. Not Zagreb. Where the brass monkeys will soon be suffering a lot. But, if you are coming here. Then think about it. If you are an alien, your road will be hard and long and expensive. To get anything more than a temporary stay. If you buy, here - like how, yu will still be temporary and may have to go through the system to become permanent. Unless you are a business. Who would dare declare a business? How do you make money here? My business ran for 30 years in the UK. It cannot survive/function here. No way. (I thought it ...might). My Croatian wife doesn't like the place. She was young when she left Croatia and is now disappointed and has seen....England. I, of course, am English. I didn't come here to retreat. But, we have been married 33 years. She has a Croatian passport. I, next February, unless I fulfill the system's requirements, will be breaking the law here, if I stay here. (Where would I go?). How about that? Disgusting or what. But it is rough...ish. Croatian life. Hard to handle. Hard to understand. After nine months here. I would say, I have never seen as many people (of similar age and life style), with bad legs and health problems, in the UK. People have stethoscopes, heart monitors etc, in their flats. And this is the coast, where, allegedly it so healthy. But it's damp. When the sun goes down, right now, 5 pm, you can feel the damp in your clothes. I don't feel healthier here. I feel knackered here. And I see many Croats knackered here. Close Croatian family who are and have been...in hospital. Visited them. Knackered. Ill. The food. Okay. Boring. Everyone gives their best. Cooks you their best and is horrified if you don't want it. It is their pleasure to feed you, believe me. That is what you may call, the 'welcome' And the vino here is....superb. So..it all depeneds where you draw the line for 'bad' and good. Happy or sad. Show me a happy declaree and I will show you a suffering fool. There is a whole lot of little bads. Like, random things...Like...I filled my car up with diesel at a petrol station and....the diesel was watered. One week later I have the car back (new fuel pump)....And I would like to KILL the garage owner but, apparently it's a well known thing. Happens all the time. Backhanders can buy you off many things. Major things. Local colour. It wouldn't happen in the UK. But, this is not the UK. Right now, tonight, my brother's daughter's husband is...serving in Iraq, with the Black Watch. 3 soldiers are DEAD, today. And we all know nothing. And this is nothing to do with Croatia but...Happy or sad, it all depends on the individual. You live with it, if that is your choice, wherever you are. Yes? Let me say....I am relatively okay in Croatia. I will let you all know if I am not. And, of course, probably I will NOT! Let you know....And now over to Englishman in Zagreb who is the star of this great thread. Move to Croatia...Yep. Do it. Do it now, and wait, with baited breath and seriously crossed fingers, for this country to be swallowed by the EU. Then you will (may) be laughing all the way to...somewhere. The bank, the grave...? Somewhere. Cut to theme tune.......

Als.......... So glad you're still here! Thought the bura and lack of Heinz beans had driven you underground until spring!! You are right - at least we're all moving about of our own volition, not being sent somewhere we don't want to be!
