First of all, English man in Croatia, no body cares about what you are doing every day. This is not your life journal on the web so shut it.
Second of all, you need to look behind the real picture. Croatia is a beautiful country, you're just missing it all because youre to busy critisizing it.
Third of all, yes England is much more improved, but when was the last time it was in a war and when was the last time Croatia was in a war???
Forthly, you are critisizing how croatians drive, well atleast we drive on the right side of the road!!
Fiftly, yes the roads might be bad but they are getting fixed as we speak so hold youre critism!

ALL ACCADEMICS, walk this way...(on a pair of crutches, and a bad foot). I'm joking. It's so good to come back to this nightly intellectual excercise...(did I live through another day? Must have done). At this time of night, after consuming another vat of crna vino and a couple of tubes of sweet pivo, well this is the best time of the day. What were we talling about? Ahh yes. Who is building a wall in Sibenik? Not even Sibenik is building a wall in Sibenik. They are digging up the sewers. (I wish they'd dig up my sewers, and replace them with....sewers). All CROATS out there, and I know quite a few, English speaking, who love our UK tv programs. Well, you should ALL take a crash course in BLACK HUMOUR. It's the best way of looking at this world of suffering idiots. Seriously. I look forward to tomorrows Neighbours episode on concrete......And ask a few questions. As in, why do the Croats have this passions to building concrete rooves, and then tile them over? Why not use the wood, you burn in your bunkers, to make a proper breathing roof, and then tile it? Concrete bunkers sweat. Concrete is a sponge for damp. Concrete, is crap. Black flies whizz across my vision continually and, watch you drinks, and your wine vinegar....Black flies love it, and die in it. Swim in it. It's amazing. And I hope all you ex-pat YANKS have voted already today! It is your duty!!
And.....Did you know, Croatia, when it speaks English, speak American English? Shocking aint it. Not a lot of people know that..... AND, it's factual time....Cost of a small 2 side pitched roof in Croatia. 10,000 kunas for the authority to biuld it. 50,000 to build it. That's 60,000 kuna for a lady who has lived here for 30 years, in the same house. And her Neighbour, whom she's known for 30 years. And she has lived with a flat roof for 30 years, now leaking: objected to her putting on her roof. Even though he knew she would eventually do it. In fact more than objected. Threatened to KILL her, and the cops found 126 firemarms and tons of bullets in his house. And, AND, he still lives next door. So, when Englishman in Zagreb states 'Croatia is a crap place to live' well just maybe there is possibly something in it. And that is a TRUE story folks. TRUE. 30 yard down my road, this thing. Thirty yards. I quite like Croatia...it's chilled (Not the dictionary defininition, of course). Now play the theme tune........

i don't know anyone that is happy fully with where they live, be it england or croatia...it is so easy for any tourist to leave london after a short visit and be impressed with the place...us who live here know better! same in zagreb, and trust me croats are aware of what is wrong with their country, my sister and parents complain to me about it all the time...but if you bothered to learn croatian (as if, you english seem to think everyone should speak english, why? if they dont live in england? because in croatia the official language is...as the name suggests...croatian!), maybe you would hear more of what is really going on around you...anyway as far as stupidity , corruptedness etc. of croatian people, how does that saying go...'it takes one to know one'...perhaps? How much tax evation goes on in England, most cash businesses are economic with the truth, it's the same all over the world.

"Croats however think that Croatia is beyond improvement, plus the fact that most of them are too lazy to do anything about it."
This is absolutely NOT TRUE! But when you take such an offensive attitude (not being willing to se ANYthing positive in both the whole country and its nation), it's ABSOLUTELY NORMAL that people take a deffensive one. Action and reaction. It would be the same, (again) absolutely the same in England or ANYwhere else.
The more intolerant your posts, the more intolerant the replies.
And to be fair - I know that many things that you write about are true, but not as in general. You conclude based on one/two/three events that something is generally so. Wrong.
As for that lady's neighbour Als was writing about..... any chances he's suffereing from PTSD? (That wouldn't justify it, but would explain it).

Okay an update on my day so far; all this happened before 11am. My car has been seriously vandalised; is this result of my thread on this comm? I would guess yes but as I have insurance and more importantly CCTV installed I am not too concerned. I am looking forward to the oik’s spending a few weeks in the showers with bubba in the local prison. So I drive into the centre and park in the underground next to the Ina petrol station (I will come back to Ina) as I was crossing on the Zebra crossing an old man almost runs me over; I put this down to him being old and being an inconsiderate ****; I call him a few names; he stops the car of course he doesn't speak a word on English; so I called him a few more and he drives away. So I go and get a haircut from a lovely old lady, I wish I could speak Croatia to talk to this lady she seems like genuine nice lady she also is a very good hairdresser. So I walk back to my car, again I cross the road this time I have at least 15 metres between me and the nearest car; when suddenly a taxi comes flying from the underground car park at an insane speed. I stand in the middle allowing him to take the next lane but he decides to cut across to the lane I am stood in; he then gets faster and faster. I wasn’t sure if I should run or jump; anyway I stood still and the taxi driver finally stopped 30 cm short of me. This guy does not know me; he does not know I am a foreigner; all he knows is that eh cares more about 5 seconds of his time then he does a human life. I wont say what happened next but I am quiet ashamed of what I did; but this deserved it. Taxi drivers in Zagreb are the worst drivers of all and the police should do something about it NOW: Now Ina I have boycotted Ina due to their pathetic service; each time I go to my local Ina I wait 15 minutes to put in petrol, I once waited 45 minutes at the Cazma ina station and over one hour on the new highway. So my opinion of Ina was already very low; the fact that they are corrupt and been given illegal favours by the government also prejudices my view against them. On the new highways Ina was offered the choice of whichever sites they want and then the rest were offered to everybody else; I know this for a fact; communism? I should say so. Anyway Ina was on a last warning with me; last week I was attempting to fill my car up at the Ina next to Dinamo Stadium and I waited and waited; then as I got to the front this vagabond figure walked in front of me and filled a petrol can; I asked him what the f**k he thought he was doing? Obviously he didn’t care; we have a few choice words. So this paid for his petrol and then I waited and waited for the cashier to turn on my pump; I went inside the shop 5 times to ask him and each time he said okay and each time he didn’t; probably the old equipment does not work. I am now boycotted this company; the service is garbage so are their stores, rox is much better so are a few more. As for the idiot who said the UK is a corrupt as Croatia…what planet do you live on? ??

Sounds like you are a 'marked' man.
You should write a film script..... Englishman in Zagreb, it's already getting a cult following here and it sure is action packed !
It's like a 'Day of the jackal' film ! Great so far.... The taximan community have found out where you work. Even the Croatian main Petrol company recognises you and causes you hassle.
We'll wait for tomorrow's bulletin in eager anticipation.
I bet your IP address is also be taped into by the Croatian Secret Police..... be careful.....be safe !
P.S ...Don't trust the hairdresser, she's on their side, just trying to get you between the sheets....she's a spy !

Cluchie you might be right about the hairdresser; as for the Croatian government they have already attempted to hack me.
However due to the fact it was easily spotted by North firewall; I assume their excuse of a virus that runs scripts is possible.
Now I am going to my new investment property; I have had a fight already with the loser who is on charge of the building.
I stated that the property; I purchased has a parking space included thus when I arrive and am unable to park this is not satisfactory he stated that he understands but at the moment the building cannot afford to have a security pillar to stop people using the spaces.
So I bought my own and now nobody can use the space allocated to my building.
He said that I broke the house rules and that I should wait a year until everybody else can afford it; I called him a commie barsteward.
I wa sin Kasieriza earlier; now sure how to spell it; there are so many Chinese people there; it is great I have finally found a part of Zagreb with different and diverse culture; needless to say the Zagerbians don’t like the Chinese settlers.
When I become Croatian prime minister; I shall make smoking illegal; I will alsos top all drinking of coffee during work hours, Viva la revelotiuon!!
P.S I have taken the CCTV pictures to the local police and they were not impressed; they say it may not be able top be submitted as evidence; that is not really important because I recogonise teh filthy oik and will be paying him a visit this evening; if you are reading this, Vidimo se!!!

Culchie,
You got in just before me!!
English Man in Zagreb.
Firstly in relation to you point aimed at me “whose command of the English language is intermediate at best.”
English is my second language, what is your excuse? I won’t bother pointing out all of your incompetence , here are just a few from your last post:
“is this result of my thread on this comm.” “Zebra crossing an old man almost runs me over” “I wish I could speak Croatia” “decides to cut across to the lane I am stood in”
These are just a few of your football hooligan English remarks.
“My car has been seriously vandalised; is this result of my thread on this comm.”
Need I say more, this line summarizes how stupid you are, do you think anymore actually would waste their time finding you and then vandalizing your car!!
It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy! Hahahahhahhahahha
We have told all our friends and family in Zagreb, look our for a dumb looking English man, a bit paranoid, constantly looking around, and whinging to everybody about how bad Zagreb is, most likely drives some strange English car, MG maybe? It would be likely that he drives any other car as anythubg but English is crap.
Guess what it looks like they found you, you must stand out!!!
Ahh you finally got your haircut, that nice I am so happy for you. You should have asked for her CV too, its such a rare thing to find a friendly and helpful person in Zagreb.
“finally stopped 30 cm short of me.” d**n it he stopped!!
You do realize the day you stop posting to this forum we will all assume you have had an accident, considering how accident prone you seem to be.
“I wont say what happened next but I am quiet ashamed of what I did; but this deserved it.”
Tell us please, we want to know, please please! Let me guess, you pissed your pants
If I could be bothered for a laugh I would make a list of all the people, companies and places you don’t like, and a list of people, companies and places you do like, the list is very one sided, everything in Croatia on the “Hate” side and “Alsdoubles” on the “Love” side, I am sure that would be a romantic dinner for two, Baked beans or maybe some curry, yummmm!!!
No offense to you “Alsdoubles”
I didn’t even finish this post and the wise man has posted more dribble,
Oh the Croatian Government has attempted to hack you, please tell me how you know it’s the Croatian Government, I need a laugh.
I am so happy you are spending all your money in Croatia, Investment property, family are buying property, Just watch out when the communists decide that all your properties belong to the state.
“When I become Croatian prime minister; I shall make smoking illegal; I will alsos top all drinking of coffee during work hours, Viva la revelotiuon!!”
“P.S I have taken the CCTV pictures to the local police and they were not impressed; they say it may not be able top be submitted as evidence; that is not really important because I recogonise teh filthy oik and will be paying him a visit this evening; if you are reading this, Vidimo se!!! “
hahahhah, must I say it again “You Idiot”
“if you are reading this, Vidimo se!!!”
Hahhahah, You still think its someone on this forum!!! “You Idiot”
PS. I hope you get the crap beaten out of you! I am sure your dumb arse response will be “It is typical response from a …. ….. Croat“
I hope you have a worse day tomorrow, especially considering your last post.
“Your IP has been logged”

As someone who is married to a Croatian, has investments in Croatia and visits there at least three times a year, I would like to applaud ''Englishman in Zagreb's''' balls for speaking out. While perhaps not sharing his aggressive way of expressing his frustrations, we agree with him that the following things are bloody awful in Croatia: the driving, the food, the manners, the small-mindedness, the honesty, the smoking, the male machismo, the egotism and the prices. Only by being honest about these failings will Croatia ever be able to cure them. Things are changing for the better, but sometimes it feels like riding a bike with flat tyres up a steep hill.

'English' man in Zagreb What an excellent thread this has turned out to be! I think you have proved, by all the positive replies, you are in the minority. If you want to find the worst in any people/culture/religion/country, it's easy. But for God,s sake, get a life. As one reply stated 'they would probably make you a King in one of the under priviliged areas of Africa' - think about it and count your blessings!!! I consider Croatians to be very polite, extremely helpful, trustworthy and kind. Sadly I think this may change when 'outsiders' move in with their greed and selfishness. Back to the point E in Z - leave Croatia but don't return to the UK!!!!

Mel; I would like to point out to you that the two minutes you wasted typing your drivel is two minutes of your life you can never ever get back.
I do not look for the worst in anybody or anything; I came to Zagreb with high hopes; but this whole place has been a huge let down from the people to the red-tape to the economy.
The idea that because a few Croats defend the their nation that all my experiences must stand for nothing is nonsensical.
These are my experiences here; I have lived in several countries, UK, South Africa, USA, Spain Rhodesia and enjoyed all of them apart from Croatia.
I felt it my duty to warn the Brits who could read the Internet propaganda mostly from people with a agendas, I.e. people who want to sell them overpriced houses etc and believe that Croatia is Utopia.
As I have already stated; if you want a slow, relaxing holiday with crystal waters go to the coast for 2 weeks. But do not move to Zagreb. You have been warned.
The simple fact is too many croatians refuses to see teh truth about their country, and this is why it will not improve.

Wow. Too many words, English man in Zagreb. They will never buy this for networking, word-wide. I think your point went out the window on page one. Croatia is crap. Yep, okay. True. Maybe....But.......Croatia made Sky news today. Like a public information announcement....village people living in concrete unfinished bunkers. But the bunkers actually belonged to Serbs (spit). My mother is a law is a Serb.... Apparently the Croats have got to give back X numebr of homes to returning Serbs before 2005. Serb, Croats, Bosnians...whatever. What we really need on this thread is an Albanian opinion. (If he, or she, can find the time between five times a day pointing in a certain direction). Eh, what.........No, I would be really interested. Zzzzzzzzz. Hot today in Croatia. Oven hot. Grey skies.....Like it made you feel...ill. Or was that last nights consumption of vino? If you come to Croatia, make sure you allow 2 days between each 'session'. You will never ever catch up. And now, all please go and watch CNN to see what happens, and who will become the WORLD'S next leader.
