A severina concert scheduled for Saturday November 18th in Hollywood CA was cancelled due to a threat phoned in by a (drum roll please) a CROATIAN!!!!!
Thats right. All because the guy who organized the concert is partnered with a serb. A croat and serb organized this concert but he cancelled it after a croat(probably from San Pedro) phoned in and threatened them if the concert took place.
The concert is the same night that Zadarska Noc is being organized in San Pedro CA about 40km south of Hollywood.
Weeks before the sentiment amongst Croats in Los Angeles was that they were not going because the concert would be full of "serbs."
I still can't understand the logic of why a concert thrown in the US for a CROATIAN SINGER would be overrun by serbs. It fails logic entirely. I still don't understand.
My question: DO THE CROATS IN CROATIA HATE SERBS(and vice versa) AS MUCH AS AMERICAN CROATS? My feeling is that croatians in america are the bigger haters. Not once have i heard anything negative towards serbs while i was in Croatia. In america its like a sport to hate them.
For the record i don't hate anyone.
and to whomever phoned in the threat: why don't you maniacs live in the present and start acting like europeans instead of primitvci. the rest of the world only knows negative things of serbs bosnians and croats. everyone is under the microscope in the 21st century. start acting like a civilized person. the muslims and israilis don't act like this in the US, why should you?
Severina plays in Belgrade and serb singers play in Croatia. Do these threats happen there? Anyone?

the guy who was promoting this is just cancelling it and letting it go.
if he called the police it would just start a big "war".... ok, battle.
but i did not ask him when he called me to tell me that it was cancelled.

I don't know about American based Croats but I've not experienced any anti-Serb rhetoric from this part of the country. Maybe I mix with the liberal circles (my girlfriend is an active member of HSLS). The Serb graves with cyrillic inscriptions here are not vandalised.

ludi, I guess the guy must be from San Peder rather than San Pedro. This is a shame, but not a surprise. It's idiots like that who handed us HDZ again for our pains and will probably thrown them in our face again next year!
Severina, Ivana Banfic and a host of former Yugo stars play regularly around Serbia etc and are loved, likewise you have Balasevic jamming Split and Slovenia - much to the disgust of certain subhumans here. Scary thing is, the knuckledraggers who refused to share space with "Serbs" are about as Croatian as Da Silva and wouldn't return to make a difference here if they were foced at gunpoint. Bring in Thomson, he'll show them what being a "Croat" is all about, if he's paid enough that is :-)

Good point ROG, unless it's a major league cop out by promoters who don't have the cash to follow through. Happened with lots of acts before, and at elast this is believable.

Irac, you are correct .... Well, something is "fishy" ...
From what I read here, few things are obvious ...
There is existing threat (lets say I basically believe in it since Ludilousa will not post this without good reason ... but we couldn't read about it's "exact scales") ... and there is "foreign-worker" involved (Severina)...
Just by using logic - I bet Severina presented "exact working schedule" while getting temp. work permit and visa, and it is sure that homeland security institutions are informed about it, and are monitoring whats going on with her - since they granted permit which involves "public events" (security concern of highest level) ... So, she will need to explain why concert was canceled, same as will promoters and those who organized this announced but canceled - public event ... So I don't know how will they hush all this if it happened ...
For example, if this happened in Croatia and everybody simply "gave up on everything" just to "keep watter calm" (because they don't trust police) maybe I will be not so surprised with their collective decision ... but we are talking about USA and FBI here ...
Lets see more details ... and speculate ... But so far ... very fishy.

i do know that zadarska noc was a party scheduled in san pedro for the same evening. also, the organizer and i talked for ten minutes about how ed up it was. he sounded genuinely dissapointed that this happened and disturbed by it.
other possibility is of course that he didn't sell enough tickets, but he told me he lost alot of money and still has to pay her.
other possibility is that there are some croats here who are very anti serb. i don't think serbs have ever stopped croats in cleveland from going to a concert.
ROG: yeah something is fishy that he did not report the threat...unless he is afraid. who knows what is going on. i'll try to finds something out this week.

I have experienced Serb haters here, which really does my head in.  They've got his horrible word "Srbenda" which is really insulting. In 2004 the Serbian singer Željko Joksimoviæ, who was 2nd at Eurovision (and got 12 points from Croatia!), was interviewed on Nova TV and the idiot presenter asked him what he hought of Thompson!  Željko quickly changed the subject. I know that Dalmatians are particularly anti-Serb, and have heard that some of the ministries here don't accept emails that end in .yu! For my part I think Thompson should be sent to Comrade Tito's Bare Island to rot!  ps - is it true that he is banned from entering the Netherlands?! |

Iam a dyed in the wool English man and fan of my ill fated team after many years of suffering the pain and expectations of a nation.
I have capitulated to a team and hopefully a country that as a go.
Croatia the team showed passion and beleife against our half interested goofers.
I hope croatia go all the way .
As for my home team well we will have to depend on a penalty shoot out to end our missery again.

funat this isn't the right thread for posting about sports but thanks for the support.
UPDATE: apparently a bomb threat was called in to vancouver about the show they were throwing there.
Severina apparently cancelled the US tour due to poor ticket sales. word on the street is that only 20 tickets were pre-sold for Los Angeles and 50 for atlanta.
so i guess that's what is going on.
however, croats in the US(don't know if this is true in europe) do not like severina because 1)her ".,.,.,.,.,.,.ic" 2) she tours all over europe and serbia in particular.
i dunno
this is all speculation

But with one addition ... If you think that Thomson and Severina are in any deep and significant way "confronted cultural concepts" - you are sooo wrong. They are just different "color-painted" representations of same "culture" (so called - "archaic primitivism"), following - "Balkan trends and marketing logic" in Severinas case, and "not following any trends of common sense" by Thomson ... But they are able to "borrow one from each other" - when necessary ... Looking from outside, it might seam how as "Messiah of Balkan's Trash Culture" Severina has way more "progressive" attitude - sending "painted in pink" message (via "presentation and verbalization of non-authentic-trash-esthetic's") how - "naked/honest/drunk primitivism unites people" (and indeed it does, on Balkans), in compare to Thompson's - "exclusive primitivism" ("authentic domestic dark painted trash") ... But only "political trends" made them more or less popular, since both was and still are "fake cultural products" of same politics (in long terms) ... Main reason for this fiasco in my opinion was - that USA (not Croats and Serbs) is just not following "trends in Balkans culture/politics" as somebody naively and greedy expected, when decided to offer "Severinas brand" to "general American audience", in oppose to "hermetically closed national community clubs" where both Severina and Thompson was getting some audience and was selling their "different brands" to basically same people. It is well known that most people just don't want (better to say - are not comfortable with) to expose their "authentic primitivism" in public and in front of the others if they are not in majority ... So there was nobody left to buy tickets ... |

the organizers of the shows are either croats or serbs to my knowledge. it was not a big company or promoter bringing them in which would have required "word of mouth" and local support to bring a large crowd.
