Elaine, you are a game respondee for sure. Today on the coast of Croatia, by god, the weather came at me while I was lying in bed, from the north, like machine guns on the scuras. Then it was grey grey and more grey, all day. Then I ventured out for a walk, hours later, without a lumbrella...can you believe that word. I bumped in to a lady 90 year old washing up the road, who I know quite well. Her lumbrella was inside out. She was soaked and laughed bog, bog...and we both walked on in opposite directions. Small things....But good things. On the east quay where I am, the fishemen carry on, a little shelter. On the west quay, it's a bit more wild. In the UK I had no quays, for 70 miles. It's grey and grim.....but it is winter.... Food. Who cares. You eat, whatever comes your way, and drink a lot.....

As an utter newbie on this forum and I have only but high praise for this particular thread. It has been a long time since I laughed this much.
Alsdoubles, Will you settle for curry powder? I'll post it down to you. I don't buy ready made sauces, I make them myself, staying true to the tradition. I can also send you a recipe for the meanest Thai Green Curry paste - although I don't know if you can get all the necessary ingredients in Sibenik. (can you get coconut milk down there?)

Zagred-plank. I have curry pastes, powders and sauces, enough to fill the harbour. And 'the wife' has made what she usually made in the UK out of all this stuff. Uneatable fodder. My wife cannot cook. End of story. What, me cook? Moi? I am sumurai. Samurai do not cook!
I reckon if you mixed it all with cement you may end up with a new invention of a conrete variation that may make the Guinnesss Book of Records. Bolly-crete! Sitar music 'emits' from it. I like sitar music. A lot...... Do not worry about me. I drink the juha, eat the fish....A hell of a lot fish. Eat the dead animals...And drink huge amounts of vino and pivo....... When I came here I gave my Fender to my daughter in the UK. She SOLD it! . Plus an amazing effects peddal and a huge amplifier. I wish (WISH) I'd brought them with me...... What has this to do with food? Nothing. 'One' is just ......refelcting on pleaures....lost........Croatian food...I eat it.....It's (gulp) okay.....

croatian food is mostly boring and basic. the quality of food is good because croatia is technologically behind the rest of western europe. but to me this is a good thing. greek and turkish food is fantastic. its funny how croatians over the centuries havent been as creative with their food. especially in coastal regions. i mean its not that creative ,,,throwing a fish on the barbie with same olive oil , or potatos in a tray and thats it. but there is one food in dalmatia thats interesting. its called "soparnik" its really intersting and delicious. and overpriced ...and i dont know why. you can usually find some baba between split and omis who makes soparnik and sells it. you have to ask around , i dont think that its available in restaurants.

Sold my '79 USA Strat a couple of years ago, plonker or what? Yep...Plonker....All we plonkers come to Croatia, to eat juha/boiled beef and carrots and freeze to death for six months through the winter. Plus drink the country dry of vino and suffer the gassy beer. Are we dead? No. We are made of stronger stuff I reckon. I reckon what Croatria needs is...having seen their music scene...a supergroup of aliens. I'm up for that. Who's on drums and bass....? You must NOT speak Croatian. You sing in English......All the old songs...Sounds like nostalgia heaven or hell. Just like Croatia.....
